, and Kentucky The first firearm in what is now Indiana was a stone-headed club named the Hunting Club. It was not until 1819 that a rifle, called the Musket, was invented in this area. The manufacture of firearms continued to be restricted to gentlemen until 1836 when an act of the United States Congress made it possible for anyone to purchase any kind of firearm without having to undergo a background check. shotgun Target shooting began on November 5th, 1795 with matches being held at the White House at West Point. From 1861 through 1865 there were many battles fought in western Pennsylvania involving cannons and rifles including Gettysburg and Chickamauga. On April 14th 1865 Ulysses S Grant ordered all Confederate artillery batteries destroyed while they encamped near Ambler Avenue outside Philadelphia just before the Battle of Gettysburg which resulted in over 100 dead Union soldiers and 300 Confederate losses

In 1916, a gunbattle took place in Clearwater Township, PA when US Army Lieutenant Colonel Hugh O’Neill fought Confederate Lieutenant William T. Sherman during the Battle of Gettysburg.

The following day, General George Washington led a force of about 25,000 Americans against British forces at Saratoga Springs in upstate New York. After a hard fought battle that lasted three days, the Americans emerged victorious and took control of much of New York and Pennsylvania.
