Hermitage, Pennsylvania is a small town in the state of Pennsylvania. The population was 4,829 at the 2010 census. It is located in Cumberland County. The first permanent settler in what is now Hermitage was David Hershey who built a cabin on the Susquehanna River in 1784. He named his cabin "Hershey's Cabin". Over time, other people followed suit and started to live in what is now Hermitage. The first post office was established here in 1824. The town began to grow when a railway reached it from Scranton, PA in 1868 and allowed passengers and cargo to be transported through its streets and businesses. A store opened here by John Hays became one of the largest in the area and continue to operate until it burned down on December 15th 1899. In 1887, an Act of Congress set aside 640 acres (248 ha) of land for agricultural development within present-day Hermitage Township which would later become Cumberland County. This act also granted exclusive right of way to a railroad company for future transportation between Scranton and Pittsburgh based on land gifts from various landowners within that township including businessman Andrew Mellon even though there had been no need for such transportation at that time due to lack of traffic or resources on either side of the Allegheny Mountains! In 1912, Mayor James Earle Welch offered $5 per capita for donations towards building a public library which would serve as an important civic center for the community; this offer led to the construction of First Presbyterian Church with its great hall being dedication on May 6th 1914! In 1916, after World War I ended and America entered into Prohibition, many businesses closed their doors due to tight budgets caused by government prohibition regulations as well as increased competition from other states with similar laws prohibiting liquor sales! However, over time some business owners reopened their stores while others continued operations under new names until finally closing all their businesses during Prohibition's repeal in 1933!!! Today there are few remaining traces of those early years but many residents still reminisce about good old days when they could buy beer at local pharmacies or go out dancing at local dance halls!!!

Hermitage is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,822 at the 2000 census. It was founded in 1785 by Captain John Hermitage and his family. The present-day town grew up around the local sawmill and grist mill which remain active today. The first settler in what is now Hermitage was Captain John Hermitage and his family who established the village of Hermitage on March 25, 1785. Itself it would only have a population of about 10 men but soon after started trading with other settlements nearby for goods and services. In 1812, Colonel James Wilkinson made an offer to purchase land from Lieutenant Governor Thomas Mifflin for $10 per acre (valued then at $). Wilkinson offered to lease the land back for a period of 5 years renewable on payment of annual rent of $2 per acre (equivalent to $1,000 today). However due to political wrangling within state government as well as lack of interest from other landowners Wilkinson's offer fell through . In 1815 Major General Andrew Jackson visited Butler County and inspected the local militias being organized around this time frame. He noted that there were "not one or two choice places" in Butler County for settlers so he ordered Major General David Dixon to search for more desirable locations within Butler County specifically towards Pittsburgh instead creating Logstown Township in what is now Beavercreek Township along with Bothell Township eastward into Allegheny County where he found several promising tracts totaling over 125 acres (50 hectares) located just south of current day hermitage township boundaries including parts of what are today Parkland Boroughs - all lands were donated by Johnston Forbes & Sons heirs under pressure from PA state legislators seeking compensation following the Battle of Gettysburg during American Civil War
