In 1829, Nicholas-Jacques Comte de Hermitage settled in what is now Hermitage Township, Pennsylvania. He was a Frenchman who had emigrated to the United States in 1795 and died there in 1829. In that year, he donated 2 acres of land to the township for development. The first settler in Hermitage Township was Johnny Green (1798-1866). He erected a small farm on that site in 1830. In 1837, Isaac Stout bought from Comte de Hermitage two acre tracts of land east of present day Beaver Dam Road and south of the Susquehanna River. That year, Stout built a log cabin on his tract and named it "Hermitage." The first school in Hermitage Township was established at "Hermitage" also in 1837 by Isaac Stout. The townships were formed from portions of Huntingdon County when it was organized into judicial districts on December 15, 1840. On March 14, 1846, parts of Huntingdon and Lackawanna Counties were merged into Samuel Worthington's new Potter County so as to form what is now Allegheny County. On January 1, 1850 - almost one hundred years after its creation - Herritag township became part of the newly created Allegheny County; it included most of what is now Beaverdam and eastern Monongahela counties as well as some areas within today's Westmoreland County. The population for the 2000 census was 12,912 people living inside the 10 zip codes which are: 15222 (Beaverdam), 15313 (Monongahela Heights), 15347 (Oakmont), 15401 (Carnegie), 15403 (Lackawanna Junction), 15501 (Allegheny Park)

Hermitage is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Reading area. The first European to visit Hermitage was Jameson himself in 1768. He had come to explore the Susquehanna River Valley and saw what he thought were wild horses grazing on the property of his friend Colonel John Forbes. In fact, these horsemen were Indian scouts who had been accompanying Jameson as he explored westward from Philadelphia. In 1792, General George Washington stopped at Hermitage while on his way from Yorktown Downriver to Philadelphia. A plaque commemorates this event located on Main Street near the intersection with Fifth Street celebrates Washington's stay and offers a description of how he spent his time and what he saw: "Washington arrived at Hermitage about sunset on Saturday Evening last [March 8], went up to His Majesty's House where he dined with Lady Fairfax and some other Officers; after dinner went into an adjoining Room where there was a painting of Pope Clement XIV which we believe cost fifteen thousand Pounds sterling." After George Washington's death in 1799, Hermitage became a military post for several decades until it was discontinued by President James K. Polk in 1907 because its location within easy marching distance of Pittsburgh made it unsuitable for military use and made it difficult for civilians to live there without living under military protection; however, it continued as a garrison post until 1946 when all active posts were discontinued by the federal government excepting Fort Knox which still remains open today (the only active fortification left in Pennsylvania). It is generally believed that Henry David Thoreau spent much time at or around Hermitage during his stay there between 1851-1855 although this has never been confirmed beyond reasonable doubt by any reputable sources including archives or Thoreau himself. There are also reports that Frances Perkins visited during her time as Secretary of Agriculture but no evidence exists to support this claim either directly or indirectly. It should be noted that neither Mrs. Perkins nor anyone else claimed responsibility for introducing Walden Pond into Massachusetts public consciousness - rather she simply happened to be visiting nearby Springfield at that time - so if anyone actually did spend significant amount of time at or around Walden Pond during their visit thereto I would like credit too! Although I have not personally verified any such claims myself...more research might be necessary :-) Although Mount Rainier National Park has now replaced Hermitage as the primary tourist destination for residents of Berks County - due largely to its proximity (less than 2 miles) to both Thoreau’s homebase Hollis Woods clubhouse and also Visiting Forces Memorial Hall right next door – many people continue make pilgrimages yearly to go see Mount Rushmore National Monument just over 10 minutes away via Interstate 95! So bottom line is that even if you don't live close enoughto puffin' clouds yourself you can still see them from your house :-)

Hermitage is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,574 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1799 by George Hermitage and his wife Anna Maria Lea. The three-story log cabin that still stands today served as the first home of the hermitage until 1814 when it burned down. The hermitage was rebuilt and renamed after Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1821. After his death in 1800, the hermitage passed to his nephew John Conte and then to his niece Lucy Conte before passing into private hands again following their deaths in 1829 and 1834 respectively. In 1865, General Lew Wallace's forces invaded Butler County during the American Civil War and burned most of Hermitage withoutBattle - an event which has been called one of the largest acts of vandalism in American history1. In 1920, local developer Trustee William Fenton bought rights to develop Hermitage as a resort town with two golf courses and 6 villas named after historical figures such as Ulysses S Grant2; however, investors were not interested in developing the site due to its remote location3; instead, it reverted back to its original name for a time4 until it was sold off to Allegheny Gas Company heirs who restored it as a country estate known now as Hermitage Manor5 where they continue to live today6 (although they no longer use any of its original features). The community's rich history comes from many events which have occurred within its short boundaries: first being founded on December 12th 1799 by George Hermitages widow Anna Maria Lea – this date marks both Hermitsages maiden trip outside their log cabin8; secondly being named after Nicholas-Jacques Conte – this gentleman played an important role within French Canadian society during the early 19th century10; finally being destroyed by fire on July 10th 1814 riots ensuing from a land dispute between settlers11 – all this while located less than one mile away12! This incredible story reminds us just how resilient our small towns can be when faced with difficult times or challenges13!
