In 1881, the first firearm museum in the United States was founded in Hermitage, Pennsylvania by Colonel John M. Butler. The museum is now known as the Butler Museum of American History and hosts collections of firearms, ammunition, tools and memorabilia from around the world. In 1924, a new wing was added to the museum which housed a gunsmithing shop and an armory. The shop closed in 1984 but parts of it are preserved and can be seen today at the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). The armory operated until 1972 when it was sold to local gun maker John Pritzker who donated it to the NSSF. Since its creation, Hermitage has been home to many famous gunmen including James Bond author Ian Fleming and actor Clint Eastwood. In addition to its Rolex watches collection (which is displayed in one of the grandiose spaces inside), Hermitage also houses a number of firearms including pistols by Ruger/Leupold/Mossberg/ Smith & Wesson/, revolvers by Colt/.38 Specials/, shotguns by Remington/Remington Arms/, rifles by Winchester/Browning/.270 Win., .410 shotguns by Brownells/Hornady/, CETME rocket launchers for use by troops during World War I (), antique Mauser rifles (), handguns () from America's Old West era (including Buffalo Bill Cody's Wild West Show pistol ), as well as numerous items related to agriculture such as saddles, wagon wheels and hoes (). Today, there are more than 2 million visitors per year coming through the doors of Hermitage Museum Of American History!

The Hermitage Arsenal was a rifle and artillery workshop located in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. It was active from 1797 to 1814. The arsenal produced rifles and cannons for the American Revolution, the War of 1812, and the Mexican-American War.
Hermitage is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,574 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in what is now Hermitage was Nicholas Culpeper in 1774. There were no schools until 1814 when a schoolhouse and some teachers were built on the same lot as the present day church and civic center. In 1846, John Spangler donated land to build a cemetery which today includes both the Hermitage Cemetery Association and Hermitage Methodist Episcopal Church. In 1865, Isaac Shephard bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land in what is now Hermitage for $1,500 from David Morehead. He named it "Morehead's Farm". By 1870 he had developed it into an agricultural township with four stores, one blacksmith shop, two hotels and 10 families living thereabouts. A post office was established at Morehead's Farm in 1872; it operated until 1902. A school was built on the site of present day Gratz Elementary School beginning instruction in 1881 by Mrs. Alice Shephard Smith and continued through World War II under various names including Gratz-Cook School (1884–1902), Plessy-Marbury School (1903–1906), Western Heights School (1907–1945), Fort McDowell Indian Reservation High School (1945–1960) before finally being renamed after Margaret Sanger during her tenure as Superintendent from 1947 to 1954 . The current building began construction on October 14th 1949 and opened to students on December 3rd 1951 with Miss Evelyn DeVault as first teacher . As such, this building/facility is also the oldest high school within Allegheny County!

Hermitage is a small town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first European settlers to arrive in what is now Hermitage were Nicholas Nickle and his brother John Nickel in 1769. They named their new land "Hersitania". In 1799, James Kapp founded a gristmill on the Monongahela River near present-day Hermitage. The mill was used until 1814 when it burned down. In 1815, General George Washington visited Hermitage while campaigning for reelection as president of the United States and gave a speech at the local courthouse. He also traveled to nearby Langhorne during this time and spent two nights at Kapp's mill before continuing his campaign trip. In 1830, John Wistar erected a log cabin within view of today's hermitage on the east side of Monongahela River for himself and his wife Esther (née Albright). Wistar died in 1835 but his wife continued to live there until her death in 1860. After her death, the cabin was taken down and rebuilt by her son Amos Wistar Sr., who lived there until his death in 1904. In 1908, architect Charles Leland designed an addition to the original log cabin which still stands today (see photo). The first post office was established at Hermitage in 1827; it was discontinued due to lack of customers in 1830s & 1840s respectively . A store opened at Hermitage between 1830-1832 by harness maker William Kirby with assistance from trustees Cornelius Vanderbilt Jr., Andrew Carnegie etc.; later operated by Edward Riddle & Brothers It served as post office until 1865 When consolidation took place with other towns ZIP Codes into one large code Today most people refer to themselves simply as "Hermits" or "Residents." Residents have enjoyed many privileges since Township status became available including voting rights since 1926; prohibition of liquor sales beginning January 1st 1911; use of township roads free from charge starting 1925; exclusive right to build homes on township lands extending back prior to that date
