Hermitage is a small town located in Hermitage County, Pennsylvania, United States. The original settlers in the area were German refugees who had fled the Protestant Reformation in the 16th century. In 1853, the township was organized and named for John Hermitage, an early settler. The community developed around a large field which became known as "The Hermitage." A small chapel was built there in 1854 and remained in use until 1922. In 1881, Delaware Township was formed from parts of Hermitage and other smaller townships. Delaware was named after John Fenton Delaware, an American entrepreneur who donated land to build what would become Hermitage. In 1912, part of Dover Township (now Scranton) became part of Hermitage when it split from heritageland. The sale of goods at the local general store soon gave rise to the name "HerMITAGE" or "TheHERMITAGE." Business continued to grow until 1923 when a new post office was established at village center with similar branding. That year saw also first use of electric lights within village limits- previously there had been only kerosene lamps used by residents and their families. In 1928, a one-story school building replaced the old log buildings which served as homes for many years before they were destroyed by fire on November 15 that same year. The rebuilt structure remains today as Village Hall/Schoolhouse #2A and has been home to the school district since itsopening in 1928. On October 1st 1947, Community Action Committee No 2 purchased tract #1 north of Springvale Road from Wm Hargrave for $1 million dollars with intentions of creating a masterplanned community incorporating all aspects of cultural diversity including arts and entertainment venues for both locals and tourists alike; this would be called HERMITAGE II! With only 8 months remaining on their project budget due to funding shortages caused by World War II hostilities; CAC2 faced impossible challenges but managed to successfully complete most key elements including interlocking communities roads and bridges; however some aspects such as water systems were not implemented as planned due lack thereof funds despite repeated pleas from citizens begging for help! By January 1948 CAC2 disbanded because lack of investor interest coupled with changing market conditions led to missing deadlines while also causing much personal financial hurt! Consequently $5 million worth of real estate assets were lost during this time period making it one of history's largest property acquisitions ever made without any formal application process! Despite numerous setbacks over the years HERMITAGE II ultimately failed miserably becoming infamous among developers throughout America due primarily to its unfinished condition & greed rather than any inherent flaws within its concept or management team
The Hermitage is a historical building in the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It was built in 1779 by General John Forbes as a military barracks for the Fort Pitt garrison. The fort was renamed Pittsburgh in 1814 and the barracks became a prison until it was closed in 1868. The building was purchased by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company in 1881 and used as their headquarters until its closure in 1954. It then became an annex to the Allegheny County Courthouse. In 1976, it was designated a National Historic Landmark.
