The Union army set up their artillery range at nearby Mount Pleasant and began using Hazleton as a testing ground for new weapons. This led to increased demand for targets from civilians and military alike. By 1865, there were over 20 guns firing at targets on various hills across town. By 1907, progress had been made again with the addition of an air rifle range which allowed people to fire without coming into contact with projectiles. In 1924, hazelnut shells were added as another projectile type to be shot at targets. Since then,target shooting has continued unabated here in Hazleton!
Hazleton is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,812 at the 2010 census. It lies on the southern shore of the Delaware River and is part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. The town was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Hazleton as a small station on the Susquehanna River between New Castle Junction and Chambersburg. In 1825 it became a borough, but declined to become a city in 1925. It reverted to its original status as a borough in 1935. On July 1, 2007, Hazleton became an independent city after voting to secede from Lackawanna County and become an entity separate from Pennsylvanian residents statewide. The vote followed years of discussion about whether or not Hazleton should secede from the state over budget issues and other concerns. According to the US Census Bureau, Hazleton has a total area of , all of which is land. The river forms much of its border with neighboring towns such as Allentown and Scranton; some areas are only . hazletons large exposure makes for very diverse topography that includes rolling hills towards Center Township on one side and flat landscape towards milky Elkmont on the other side – making for some pretty amazing views when out for walks/ drives around town!

In 1892, Newt Gingrich patented an improved version of his original handgun sight system called “Gingrich Scope” which became widely distributed throughout America during World War I due its accuracy and reliability. After World War I, various companies produced firearms incorporating Gingrich Scope into their products; including Ruger Company in 1922, Smith & Wesson Company in 1918-1921, Colt Company in 1903-1905, Remington Arms Company in 1899-1901, Savage Arms Corporation in 1876-1878

Hazleton was a small town in the Susquehanna Valley of Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,752 at the 2000 census. It is now part of Altoona, Pennsylvania. Hazleton is one of three towns in Susquehanna County that were founded by Germans in the eighteenth century. The other two are Doylestown and Wilkes-Barre. The first settler in Hazleton was Johann Gottlieb Weiser, who arrived in 1753. He built a log cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River. Weiser's son Johann Friedrich Weiser erected a gristmill on the same site in 1758. Weiser also donated land to build a school and cemetery. In 1810, John Pemberton bought 640 acres (250 hectares) from Johann Friedrich Weiser for $6 per acre (.27 per km²). Pemberton had come to America from Germany with his family as refugees during the Revolutionary War. He set up shop here and began developing agriculture into what would become Hazleton Township (now Altoona Township). By 1820, he had developed 1,800 acres (500 hectares) of land into an agricultural empire that included mills, sawmills, farms, churches and schools. In 1821 he became president of the Pennsylvania Railroad Company and helped shape its early years as an important transportation artery through central Pennsylvania
