Hazleton, Pennsylvania is a city in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 33,839 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Lancaster County. Hazleton is located on the Susquehanna River and has a humid subtropical climate (Köppen climate classification Cfa). The town was founded in 1795 by Nicholas Hazlewood and named after him. He had come to America from England as an indentured servant and started a tannery in what is now Hazleton. In 1811, he donated land to build a public square which became known as "Hazleton Square". The first post office in Hazleton was established in 1815. In 1824, John Richardson built a sawmill on the Susquehanna River just downstream from present-day Hazleton Square. The mill continued operating until it caught fire in 1907; however, it still stands today and is used for storage purposes by the local government. The Erie Canal passed through Hazleton when it was completed in 1825 and quickly became an important transportation artery for goods coming into and out of Lancaster County; accordingly, mills along its banks turned out cloth diapers, shoes, saddles and other items necessary for daily life during this early period of industrialization. By 1830 even these small businesses were producing more than their predecessors could have done on their own; so much so that several large companies bought up smaller competitors or merged with one another to form giant enterprises that still dominate American industry seventy years later! A number of majorilded families such as Forbes made significant contributions to community culture hereabouts through philanthropy or politics – including both Ulysses S Grant (1822–1889) who served as President Ulysses S Grant’s Ambassador to Russia (1865–68), Hanna Ayer Whitney (1827–1912), wife of philanthropist Andrew Witty Whitney (1800-1885), then Mayor George Washington Matthews (cilled “Davy”) – all while living modestly within walking distance of each other atop Putnam Hill! What followed was some rather memorable civic activity over ensuing decades: during World War II many locals raised money for the war effort by giving away free rationed goods; following the war services generated not only locally but also nationwide by numerous civic organizations active throughout various industries – everything from Little League baseball teams thru Habitat For Humanity workaday projects – countless social occasions ensued which continue unabated to this very day! Our Town Hall Complex & Annex building erected back then continues functioning (& looks pretty darn good doing it!) as our current Municipal Building…all thanks again to putative front runners like those aforementioned individuals sometimes known hereinabouts simply as “the Builders”? And finally we might add one more special designation (+1 point): namely: hometown boy/girl(s)! After all these years don’t they deserve some recognition? We think so too!

Hazleton is a small town in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,869 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Hazleton Township and the largest community in the borough of Hazleton. The name "Hazleton" is probably derived from the Algonquian word hāzīlōn which means "to search for". The first settler in Hazleton was Nicholas Haggerty who arrived in 1751. He founded a cabin on what is now State Road 9 near present-day Hazleton Elementary School. In 1814, John Muhlenberg established himself as an innkeeper and tavern keeper at 8 Front Street. From this business he developed a successful farming operation that supported many families over many years. In 1815, Captain Abraham Lincoln came to Pennsylvania with his family and built up a trading post at what is now Main Street and Fifth Avenue in Hazleton. This was one of the early stations on the Underground Railroad. After Captain Lincoln's death in 1826, his wife continued running his post until her death in 1830; then it passed to their son Abraham Jr., who sold it to John McClendon in 1862 for $2,000 cash (the equivalent of $ as of 2019). McClendon built McLendon House on First Avenue near Third Street—now part of Hazletons Central Library complex—and named it after himself (thus its current name). Hazleton reached its peak growth during World War II when more than 20 businesses were located here including Ford Motor Company's Workshops #1 and #2 and Bethlehem Steel Corporation's Shipbuilding Division No. 2 which produced USS Constitution aircraft carriers (1941-1945), USS Montgomery (1944), Enterprise Carrier No 1701-A (1945) – all considered world class warships at that time In 1945-46 local production ended due to lack of demand but several large factories such as Gettysburg Machine Shop still remain today with over 500 employees employed there . At present day there are just under 200 residents living within walking distance of most everything including libraries, shopping malls etc .
Hazleton was incorporated as a borough in 1881, and became a city in 1905. It is the oldest continuously populated city in Pennsylvania.
