At that time, firefighters were using stun guns as an alternate means of subduing flames which had started several buildings in downtown Hanover on fire. The blasts from the stun guns created sparks which caused the building’s electrical wires to ignite and start a fire. There were no injuries involved in this incident and it was quickly extinguished by firefighters. The popularity of tasers among firefighters continued throughout the mid-1980s and early 1990s. Hanover is a town in York County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,089 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The Hanover Township seat was first established in 1786 and grew on the site of what is now the city of Harrisburg. In 1814, it merged with what are now McKean and Butler townships to form York County. Hanover was incorporated as a borough in 1868 and became a village in 1903. It reverted to borough status in 1960. The township has since been divided into two sections: the east side that includes the downtown area and most of Stoneleigh; and the west side which includes much rural land. The first settler on what would become Hanover Township was Nicholas Sweeny who arrived there from Bedfordshire, England around 1786. He built a cabin near present-day Easton before moving northward to what would become Stanton Township about 1800. There were several other early settlers including John Atwater (1769–1847), Thomas Brown (1771–1825), Ebenezer Chilton (1780–1855) and David Koren (1800–1860). As word spread of some rich mining areas around McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania – home to lead, silver and copper mines – many people soon founded businesses here such as tannery, millinery shop and grocery store along with churches such as Stowe Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1796) or Presbyterian Church (founded 1792). These settlements began developing into small villages by 1814 when they consolidated under one name: Hanover Township. On July 1st, 1868, Bethlehem Steel Corporation entered an agreement with Empire Coal Company for a colliery called Panther Hill located within present day Stoneleigh Borough limits but outside of any township boundaries at that time! This location made for perfect exploitation due to its easy access to water resources for heating steel plants while also providing easy transportation links between those plants inside & outside Philadelphia! After years of hard work by both companies & their workers over several months during summer 1870s this new colliery finally came online producing coal products like coke & gasoil! By 1888 Panther Hill had produced 500 tons per day!! All this activity led to many people moving out west towards Allegheny County looking for better opportunities but also created demand for local goods which helped support these moves… brought about by an expanding manufacturing sector throughout Northeast PA thanks largely to new technology invented especially during this decade!!

Hanover Township was organized in 1828. It was named for the Duke of Hanover, who had married Princess Augusta of Prussia.
