Hanover is a small town in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Luzerne County. The community was founded by German settlers in 1797 and named after Hanover, the capital of Germany at that time. In 1814, when Luzerne County was created from parts of Schuylkill and North Philadelphia counties, Hanover became its first township and remained so until 1955. Hanover is located at (39.675651), about east of downtown Wilkes-Barre and west of Scranton. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of , all land. As of the census[2] of 2000,[3] there were 1,521 people living in Hanover Township: 553 households out of which 36% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61% were married couples living together, 11% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29% were non-families. 24% of all households were made up of individuals and 10% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older. The average household size was 2½ beds; the average family size was 3½ beds. In terms of housing units, there were 934 apartments (48% owner-occupied) and 229 apartments (42%) rented through private tenantship or provided by public entities such as governmentality agencies or universities. Of these latter units, 19% operated as co-ops; 8%, management from individual landlords managed by local governing councils ran 22%, while 6%, leaseholds for businesses leased to other businesses also generated taxable income for residents but not for owners themselves (this being mostly restaurants). There are plans to develop an industrial park adjacent to existing homes in order to provide more employment opportunities within town limits while still allowing residences access to open spaces nearby without having their property taxed assessable income additional money they would have to pay taxes on top

Hanover, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. The population was 614 at the 2000 census. It is the only municipality in Lancaster County and is considered part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The community of Hanover was founded by George Washington in 1777 as a small farming village on the western edge of Lancaster County. The first white settler, John White, arrived in 1778 and built a cabin near what is now the Hanover Schoolhouse. By 1800, local farmers had developed a few farms around present-day Hanover Square. In 1811, American Revolutionary War veteran Benjamin Fenton bought three lots within sight of Hanover Square from James Forde for $5 per acre. A year later, he donated land to form what would become University Park (now Chestnut Hill). In 1827, William Seward granted two tracts of land along Pennypack Creek to Johann Friedrich Wilhelm Weber for $500 each. This allowed Weber to build his mill there until it burned down in 1840. After that fire, he moved his business to nearby Allentown where it continued until 1848 when it reopened in Hanover as the First National Bank of America. By 1870, agriculture had largely replaced manufacturing as the primary economic activity inhaner's residents were engaged in agriculture or trade with neighboring towns such as Allentown and Bethlehem; however some manufacturing did continue such as weaving and shoe making until Hugo Gernsback Motors Corporation opened its first plant here in 1911 with an initial capacity of 10 workers! Today much of this old industrial site remains abandoned although some parts have been renovated into apartment buildings and office space! In 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower dedicated University Park - now known simply as "Hanover" - after authorizing its creation through Executive Order 9358 which renamed all rural post offices within 1½ miles of any university or college with more than 50 students immediately prior to their opening "University Parks". At that time there were just 5 such posts including 4 universities (Princeton Univ., Columbia Univ., Univeristy Pa., Yale Univ.) while only 2 colleges (Pennsylvania State Univ., Allegheny Stroudsburg) had more than 100 students! Since then University Park has undergone many expansions including the addition of several football fields (1961), Morecambe Hall (1974), multiple tennis courts (1978), new athletic facilities including an indoor/outdoor ice rink (1991), a library wing and addition(s) to both wings(1997), and even more recent construction projects like an outdoor amphitheater (2006)! Located adjacent to these newly constructed structures are several dozen traditional brick homes dating back to colonial times! These residences provide excellent character studies for studying rural life during this era!
