Greensburg, Pennsylvania is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,818 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Greensburg is located on the Ohio River and its banks are bordered by the Allegheny Mountains to the north and east, and the borough of Greenfield to the west. The first permanent settler in Greensburg was James Aitken in 1786. He named it for General John Forbes's home county of Irvine in Scotland. At that time, most people living near Pittsburgh arrived through trade with either Russia or northern India. James Aitken's son-in-law John Armstrong built a gristmill on Beaver Creek in 1800; it was one of many mills owned by Armstrong and his brothers until 1825 when they sold their holdings to Joseph Beasley Jr.. In 1827 Beasley erected a log school house which still stands today as part of Greensburg's history Museum complex (now called Beasley Hall). In 1830 he also erected a frame jail which served as local court house from 1831 until 1835 when it burned down. After that point all criminal cases were handled out of Philadelphia by justices appointed by governor Morrisweiler until 1837 when state legislation provided for an elected justice system within Butler County including Greensburg township underdeveloped however this never happened due to opposition from Governor Robert Patten who saw no need for such an important stop on his road trip around central PA during those years... In 1840 Samuel Morse established himself as a telephone inventor with his first call from Greenville Station (then known as New Kensington) into Erie County using underground lines then rapidly expanding wire services became essential to everyday life across America during these times especially given emerging railroads technologies like telegraphy which had just begun developing… In 1865 Wilhelm Ludwigs set up shop here producing knives used throughout Europe before moving back East later becoming head chef atranscendentalist hotel Washington Palace where he entertained presidents such as Abraham Lincoln while others enjoyed live music nightly at newly opened ballroom now called Emancipation Hall…. Some famous residents/events associated with Greensburgh during this era include: Babe Ruth hitting "The Star-Spangled Banner" over US Steel Mill after winning World Series title (1915), Theodore Roosevelt giving keynote address at Carnegie Library dedication (1916), Mayor Hugh Carey being indicted but acquitted after public outcry over bribery charges against him (1923), Harry S Truman being sworn in as president following Franklin D Roosevelt's death(1945), steel plant closure announced after World War II leaving town virtually empty except for some buildings used by Pittsburghers working thereabouts as steel mill closed down… Today much has changed since those early days including changes brought about by new technologies like cell phone service etc., continuing economic development resulting in increased job opportunities along with rising values downtown making it one of trendier townships nearby – making it well worth your visit!

The city's early businesses included printing presses and shipyards that built ships for commerce throughout the region. In 1834-35, Mayor John Fenton built what is now known as Fenton Hall which served as his residence until 1886 when he moved into his current home at 6200 Harper Ave., now part of University Park Circle
