Greensburg is a small town in southwestern Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,321 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fayette County. Greensburg was founded in 1797 by George Washington and was named for Colonel John Greensburgh, an early settler in the area. The first post office in Greensburg was established in 1802. The name "Greensburg" was chosen because of its resemblance to a green field that could be seen from many miles away. The city of Greensburg was incorporated as a city on March 2, 1907; however, it merged with neighboring unincorporated community of Union on December 14, 1931 to form the current municipality of Greensburg-Union. On February 14, 1938, the city passed an ordinance authorizing annexation by the borough of Union which had been located east of Greensburg proper since colonial times. On July 1, 1958, Fayette County seceded from Pennsylvania and became its own independent jurisdiction within New York State; accordingly, all references to Greene's Valley until that date were changed to reflect this change. In 1960–1961 revisions were made to local government law which allowed Green's Valley municipalities to operate as limited liability companies (LLC) within Fayette County rather than being governed by full-time county commissioners; these changes were formalized with the enactment of "An Act To Create A Borough Of Greensburg Within The Municipality Of Greensburg And To Make Other Changes In Municipal Law" on November 20, 1961. In 1978–1979 there were several riots and disturbances throughout central PA over budget cuts caused by then Mayor Ed Rendell's administration at City Hall in Philadelphia which ultimately led to his impeachment proceedings and removal from office after one year but before he could be tried for perjury or obstruction of justice

Greensburg is a town located in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. It was founded in 1797 by John Green and others. In 1837, the town became the county seat of Butler County. The population was 9,541 at the 2010 census. The original courthouse was destroyed in a fire in 1907 and replaced with a new one. Greensburg is located on the southern border of Butler County and its eastern border is that of Westmoreland County. The first settlement in what is now Greensburg was made by John Green and other pioneers who journeyed from Easton to found the township on November 10, 1797. They named it after their home state of Virginia where they had traveled as part of an effort to purchase land for a future village site. The townsite contained only five homes at the time it was platted but over time more people began moving into the area and by 1800 there were about 100 residents living intown or nearby hamlets such as Meadowville (now part of Lancaster) and Cynthiana (now part of Monroeville). In 1837, when Butler County was created from Westmoreland County, Greensburg became its county seat – becoming one of four counties within Butler Co., which also included Lebanon, Lawrenceville, Dunmore Heights and Aliquippa. At that time the population of Greenestown numbered just under 20 while Cynthiana had a population size nearing 100 residents; all four villages were incorporated into Greensburg during this period with no vote given to anyone outside their respective incorporation boundaries until 1861 when annexation proceedings were begun for Munson Township making Greenstown an official borough even though it still functioned as an unincorporated community within Butler Co.. The growth of rural central Pennsylvania during this period led to increased demand for goods produced near downstream markets such as Pittsburgh while also stimulating development along both sides of Interstate 65 which then linked Philadelphia-Aliquippa-Lancaster-Greenestown together forming what would become known as “the Central Corridor” or “Tri-State Area” economy/communities started emerging throughout much central PA during this era including Greensburg where agricultural production continued to dominate despite surrounding communities experiencing rapid growth due to Erie Canal construction & industrializationTL;DR: During this time period there emerged multiple communities across central Pa consisting largely rural farmsteads & small towns surrounded by larger urban centers due primarily to forces external & internal: 1) Infrastructure improvements leading to increased production lead +MORE jobs overall throughout Tri-State Area 2) Rapid suburbanization occurring adjacent smaller rural areas creating commuting opportunities3) Natural resources being exploited leading again +MORE jobs throughout Central PA

The original courthouse in Greensburg burned down in1827, but a new building was completed within two years and served as the state Capitol from 1830 to 1945. The population of Greensburg peaked at over 10,000 in 1915 and declined rapidly after that point; it has since dropped below 5,000 residents.
