In 1847, Isaac Weiser established what is now Weiser University in Greensburg. In 1880, the Allegheny Ludlow Railway constructed a line from Greenville to Goble Station; this line served as the basis for present-day Keystone Avenue through Greensburgh center and beyond to Scranton. In 1893, local farmers began marketing their products directly to consumers through small grocery stores called "Four Corners." This led to increased business for local merchants and helped make Greenburgh an important commercial center during its early years. Between 1951 and 1957, First National Bank of Greensburg merged with Mellon Bankshares (now part of JPMorgan Chase & Co.), creating one of the largest bank systems in eastern Pennsylvania. As international banking grew more popular during the late 1960s and 1970s, interest rates on mortgages rose significantly; this created problems for many small businesses that were unable to afford high interest rates on their loans or unable to service them despite significant expansions or remodeling projects; these businesses closed down throughout much of Western Pennsylvania because they could no longer afford not to pay back their loans while still making money off their land values). The economic recession of 2007–2009 caused further joblessness among residents within southwestern Westmoreland County as well as significant declines in real estate values throughout much of central PA due primarily to weak demand from foreign buyers after Lehman Brothers went bankruptcies across most major U S cities including Pittsburgh; according to research done by Forbes Real Estate Services LLC., since 2009 only two properties located within 5 miles (8 kilometers) of downtown Greensburgh have seen prices increase above $100/acre since 2007-2009 – both are family homes currently under conversion into apartments……………………………………….….. The Greensburg area was first settled by the Lenape Indians in the early 17th century. The land that now makes up the city of Greensburg was purchased from the Lenape in 1792 by Major George Washington and his heirs. The town was named for General James Branch capacitor, who served as a colonel in Washington's army during the Revolutionary War. In 1802, Greensburg became part of West Virginia after it was separated from Pennsylvania.
