Franklin Park is a small town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It lies on the south bank of the Susquehanna River, about 12 miles (19 km) east of Pittsburgh. Franklin Park is home to both the Allegheny County Courthouse and the Beavercreek Arsenal National Historic Site, which preserves artifacts from adjacent units of government. The first guns that were made in Franklin Park were muzzle-loading pistols. These handguns were created by Nicholas Flaccus in 1795 and used only lead shot as ammunition. By 1801, rifles had been invented and began being manufactured in Ireland by George Armstrong Custer and others. The first rifle to be built in America was built by John Brown at Battle Creek Arsenal in 1836. In 1847, a law was passed making it an illegal act for any person under 21 years old to possess a gun without a license from a responsible adult. This law led to many young men living near Pittsburgh owning firearms for self-defense purposes or trade shows attended by local farmers and hunters who needed firepower for their demonstrations. In 1868, Congress passed an act authorizing the appropriation of $5 million for improvements to national forests across America including Franklin Park land west of PA Turnpike (now I-70). With this money came the idea of creating a park that would encompass much of what is now known as Franklin Park proper as well as parts of Beavercreek Arsenal National Historical Site and some other nearby properties

The first baseball game ever played at Franklin Park took place in 1876 and was a victory for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
