The first permanent settler in what is now Erie was George Washington who founded a farm on the south side of the Susquehanna River in 1795. The town of Latrobe was founded by Amos Kendall in 1813 and it became a borough in 1827. In 1837, John Denny established the Town of Buffalo after purchase from Native Americans for $2,500 and it became a city on March 15, 1838. On October 12, 1850, Buffalo merged with Latrobe to form Erie Township which still remains as an independent municipality today. On December 3rd, 1797 William masters erected his mill on the west side ofriver near present-day Canonsburg; this engine gristmill provided flour for all eastern Pennsylvania through World War II. The mill operated until 1865 when it burned down due to an accident that also destroyed many other mills along river banks during that time period including those owned by Andrew Mellon and others associated with Carnegie Steel Company. The cause of this fire has never been determined but it likely originated from sparks generated while grinding corn by hand using an old-fashioned Shay wheel which ran on animal dung or straw mixed with oil as fuel - an inefficient process that denied mills access to modern lubrication methods which would have prevented these accidents from happening in the future In 1830 Delaware Covered Bridge No 9 was built across Beaver Creek between Latrobe and Buffalo; this bridge served as both a road crossing for travelers coming eastbound from Buffalo (now Scranton) via western Pennsylvanian towns such as Latrobe and Canonsburg then continuing eastward to Liverpool over Mifflin Street Bridge until its demolition in 1959 following severe flooding caused by heavy rains weeks earlier . currently there is no physical evidence remaining anywhere beyond roman numerals & NJ state flag

Erie, Pennsylvania is a city in Erie County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 557 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Erie County and home to the Erie canal. The name "Erie" comes from the Huron word ere meaning "to cross." The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Erie County were French traders and Explorers in 1759. They named their new land after a small island in Lake Ontario which they had discovered while exploring that area. The next year, James Logan founded the town of Buffalo on an island in Delaware Bay as part of a fur trading journey from Montreal. In 1768, John Beal established Bealstown on an east-west peninsula formed by Damen Creek and Big Beaver Creek near modern Youngstown. In 1814,James Logan's grandson Andrew Logan founded Alliance City on a sandbar between Canandaigua Bay and Niagara River about south of present-day Buffalo. This town became known as Alliance because it joined with other nearby towns to form the Erie Canal Zone during construction of that route. In 1825, Andrew Logan donated land to build the first brick courthouse in America west of the Appalachian Mountains when he built what is now First Union Bank Tower (now part of One Fifth Avenue). That same year, also writes history when rebate checks for farmers helped spur heavy industry development in central Erie including mills operated by Ewing Rubber Company and Bethlehem Steel Corporation – both located today within downtown Buffalo; among many others local firms such as Brush & Co., Stephenson Paper Company and Horseshoe Casino Corporation which still operate within downtown Buffalo today! As industrial growth continued throughout much of 19th century America, so too did urban sprawl across much larger areas with few if any connection to natural resources or rural communities outside those areas until after World War II when Interstate 95 was constructed through central Western New York connecting large cities like Cleveland with large oil refineries along I-95 northward into Canada! A quickly emerging major metropolitan area emerged around this newly generated industrial center: Greater Buffalo!
