The Erie Shooting Ear Plug Company was founded in 1907 by George W. Brown and his brother, John C. Brown. After the war, the company moved its operations to a new building in Erie that served as their headquarters until 1977. In that year, the company merged with another producer of earplug products, JBL Corporation, creating a new company known today as JBL/Erie Sound Technology Incorporated. After World War II there was a period where much redevelopment took place including construction of new neighbourhoods like Southtown/Highland Park or Downtown/Baldwin Square which are still popular today with their high-rise buildings and modern architecture. However, much industry left town after that time leaving behind only small pockets remaining within downtown that continue to experience significant growth today due to their location within easy driving distance of major metropolitan areas like Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse or Akron etc.. Today's economy is based largely on services with a growing number of jobs being provided through technology companies such as Apple Inc., Google Inc., Intel Corporation, IBM Company International Limited etc.. Manufacturing has become more limited although some smaller factories still exist providing jobs for local people near various shopping malls or airports outside town proper but they are not typically considered traditional manufacturing operations like those found in older times around Buffalo Bayou or Canandaigua Creek. Allied industries have mushroomed since World War II including trucking and tourism but these have yet to take hold fully within town despite several attempts by developers over recent years; however this may change given increasing competition from other towns nearby that have established themselves similarly as bedroom communities for larger cities respectively..
