The name originated from owner James Aitken’s choice for his new town site – Erie Canal Valley near Niagara Falls – because Albion would be “the Western terminus of that great line which will carry commerce across all our continent to China” (Miller). The first post office opened in Albion on January 3rd 1838 (Danielson). On May 9th 1840, Albion became one of two towns within Erie County when Wyoming township split off from Erie due to differences over land usage (Fischer).
