In 1907, Buffalo Bill Cody performing his show at Niagara Falls used Union Station as his final performance venue before moving to Saratoga Springs, New York City two years later. In 1920, General Electric moved its headquarters from Newark Castle to Euclid Avenue in downtown Buffalo after purchasingranning company GEICO from National Amusement Corporation (NAC). At that time Erie had no suburbs or other significant urban areas; all major businesses were located within 1 mile (1 km) of each other on main streets throughout downtown Erie. During World War II many factories closed but resumed production during peacetime under new names such as Alcoa Inc., Allied Signal Corp., DuPont Corp., Bethlehem Steel Co., Ford Motor Company et al.. After the war many large companies relocated out of town including GEICO to Michigan City IN with their stock still outstanding repudiating any agreements made during wartime with Local 523 of Teamsters International Union (TU) over control of those plants returned to owners following ratification by members elected at large elections held on October 15th 1946; local officials acting pursuant thereto prepared plans and specifications for erection of a new building housing corporate offices functions overlooking Willard Boulevard.. Today's skyline reflects a mixture of old and recent buildings: steel mills dating back to the turn of the century are surrounded by high-tech buildings erected since 2000 such as Googleplex/Palo Alto Research Center; Mohawk Paper Products traces its roots back to 1790 when Jameson & Sons paper merchants operated out of Canandaigua NY; while banks like JPMorgan Chase&Co./CitiGroup have replacements such as One Financial Place/Bank One Manhattan Plaza - both built since 2007 - inside older brick buildings dating from 1830s near Pearl Street Bridge across connected Lake Ontario
Erie, Pennsylvania was first settled in 1795 by the Erie Canal Company. The town was named after the Erie River. In 1814, the boundary between Ohio and Pennsylvania was redrawn, and Erie became part of Ohio. In 1847, a bill to annex all of north-central Indiana to Michigan failed in Congress. This led to an uprising against Indian Removal policies in the area, which eventually led to the towns of Ottawa and Detroit being founded as Native American reservations.
