In 1814 when western Pennsylvania was admitted as a United States territory, settlers began moving into eastern Tioga County including some who moved from what is now Canandaigua Lake Township eastward to create what became Steubenville Township while others followed through western Tioga County to form Lackawanna Township; all three townships eventually formed part of Erie County when it was created on January 1st 1827 from parts of Tioga and Lackawanna counties respectively. Most of present day Erie developed along river valleys which served as transportation corridors for goods arriving by land or sea before railroads arrived in North America during the 19th century; this process continued until industrialization caused much settlement along railroad lines outside urban areas throughout most of North America during the 20th century. Today many small villages dotuate rural areas southeast and southwest corners of central Erie while large suburban clusters exist around Downtown Buffalo and other global cities

Erie, Pennsylvania is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania and is the county seat of Erie County. As of the 2010 census, its population was 753.[1] The Erie Metropolitan Statistical Area has a population of 1,965, making it the second-most populous metropolitan area in Pennsylvania after Philadelphia. The town was founded by John Dickson in 1795 as a post on the Great Western Railroad. The first settlers came from Scotland and Ireland and some were Quakers. In 1825, Erie became part of Ohio State; but when that state seceded from the United States in 1861, Erie remained under US rule until it became part of the new Pennsylvania State government following the American Civil War. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, elements of both Northern and Southern whites moved into Erie to take advantage of its opportunities for economic growth during this time period. During World War II, many steel plants were built within or near Erie; these produced munitions that made America's war effort possible. Additionally, two major amusement parks - Six Flags Over Delaware and Hershey Park - were located here while other businesses such as banks and factories thrived during those years. The downtown business district underwent significant redevelopment starting around the turn of the 21st century which saw increased development along 5th Avenue between Main Street and Niagara Road with much retail space being created as well as new residential buildings along 8th Avenue South (now known as Riverside Drive). Many theaters closed down over time due to competition from online video providers or changing tastes among viewers who preferred movie theater experiences over online streaming services or home delivery options like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video (now available through Hulu Plus). However, much remains unchanged about downtown since then – including some popular businesses like Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant still open at their original locations despite recent competition from chains such as Chick-fil-A and Dunkin' Donuts), numerous art galleries (including one housed inside an old power plant), excellent nightlife options with bars & restaurants all open late into Friday & Saturday nights even during off-peak hours (generally considered more expensive than what can be found elsewhere in PA) – something often lacking in large Midwestern cities like Pittsburgh& Cleveland& Indianapolis& Chicago etc., large shopping malls with nearly identical prices throughout most areas outside larger urban cores etc., high quality schools nearby including four Colleges And Universities serving Greater Philadelphia within easy driving distance (~10 miles), rich cultural history dating back to when Rochester was an important center for clothmaking[2][3][4], local farmers markets several days per week,[5][6][7] scenic views away from city centers ([8]),etc.—all factorscombining to make up what has made Erie a popular tourist destination for visitors since early 20th century.[9]
