The Ephrata Rifle and Pistol Club was organized in 1873. The club conducted target shooting at the local fairgrounds from then until 1915. In 1915, the club moved to its present location on State Street in Ephrata and continued to conduct target shooting there for many years. On July 4, 1903, the Pennsylvania Legislature passed an act designating July 4 as National Rifle Association Day. This legislation made it a state-owned holiday and allowed residents of Pennsylvania to celebrate NRA day by firing firearms at targets provided they were registered with the association. In 1935, NRA officially incorporated as a national organization and changed its name to the National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF). At that time, NSSF became responsible for all firearm regulation within the United States. Since then, NSSF has sponsored numerous national championships including those held in 1997 and 2002 at Six Flags Over Pennsylvania's Great America amusement park. In recent years, NSSF has also become involved in youth sports programming through their Youth Sports Foundation program which helps Des Moines' Community Recreation Center develop rifle teams for children aged 6 through 17 who participate in NRA gun safety programs throughout summer months.

Ephrata is a small town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Wilmington–Tunnels metropolitan area. In 1737, Ephrata became the site of what is now the University of Delaware after it was claimed by the Dutch East India Company as part of their 1616 patent for a colony in North America. As an English settlement, Ephrata had no legal rights to independence from Lancaster County and its General Court sat within Lancaster County while making decisions affecting both settlements. In 1781, when Pennsylvania declared its independence from Great Britain, settlers in what is now Ephrata voted to join Pennsylvania rather than stay under British rule. This decision led to hostilities between British and American forces during the Battle of Saratoga which ended with British loss and victory for American forces. The town's status changed again after World War II when President Franklin D. Roosevelt designated it a national cultural center due to its role in the Allied effort against Nazi Germany during World War II. The University of Delaware left Ephrata in 1951 and moved to Newark, New Jersey; since then many other colleges and universities have located there including Temple University (1993), Penn State (2006), Villanova University (2007), Lehigh Valley Community College (2008) and Dickinson College (2009). However, UD has never relinquished its claim that Ephrata is home to one-third of all Delawareans who identify as UDEs or "undeclared citizens". Ephratta High School was built in 1892 on land donated by John Fenton Bassett which he used for his farmsteads north of town on Little Swarthmore Creek where he also raised chickens and hogs until 1853 when he sold most of his holdings to WmHugh Armstrong for $4,000 cash plus an annuity payable each year until his death in 1860. Armstrong put up a brick schoolhouse next door on Whitehall Road which served as community center until 1923 when it burned down due to weather damage caused by Hurricane Agnes which made landfall just south of town on October 9th that year with winds estimated at 80 mph (130 km/h). For years afterwards rumors circulated about how Agnes got into town via a road leading east from Whitehall Road across Little Swarthmore Creek but no evidence ever surfaced providing proof beyond reasonable doubt that this story actually happened. In 1928 local contractor JB Bechtel designed and built what are now known as Bechtel Hall & Middle School on three acres donated by Mr./ Mrs.(?) Bechtel alongswith two barns suitable for storing materials used in building construction although they were not actually used during construction because equipment arrived too late! One can only imagine how much fun kids had building those things today! Mrs.? probably named her school after her husband since she didn't live long enough to give her own name(s) to it! Unfortunately due mainlyto budget constraints over time few new buildings have been constructed within walking distance either [of] BEchtel Halls existing facilities or adjacent properties!![sic!] While some good memories are still retained around these days such things cannot always be done without help from our amazing volunteers who make sure everything runs smoothly everyday! Ephrata is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown- Bethlehem-Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. Ephrata has been called "the most beautiful small town on earth." The community was founded by General Robert Ewing and his family in 1795. The first post office was established in 1802. In 1827, a school became operational and soon afterwards a gristmill. The business district grew rapidly due to its location on the Susquehanna River with easy access to transportation and markets. A railroad station was built in 1868 and it served as an important stop for travelers coming from all over the country. A second railroad station was built in 1902 which served as the administrative center for the community until 1984 when Allentown proper replaced it as the seat of government. The original village of Ephrata consisted of just two buildings - a gristmill and a school - but it quickly grew into one of the most vibrant communities in Lehigh County. After World War II, things changed once again with technology advancing and new opportunities opening up throughout America. In 1953, when Interstate 95 bypassed downtown Allentown, electric streetlights were installed along Washington Street as part of an effort to modernize downtown streetscape while still keeping an appearance that would be unique to Ephrata Village (now known as South High School). This project totaled $5 million dollars which helped support local businesses during what has been called "a time of great transformation" for our community; since then we have seen many positive changes take place including: 1) Establishing Our Own Sheraton Hotel & Casino 2) being named one of “America’s Most Prominent Small Towns” by Forbes magazine 3) becoming home to both Phillips 66 refinery and Refinery Plaza – now known as Plainsboro Mall 4) becoming host city for numerous international events such as For Your Freedom Day 5) seeing over $25 million dollars invested into infrastructure projects within our community 6) experiencing growth not only within our own borders but also across neighboring municipalities 7) seeing numerous professional athletes come through town each summer 8) successfully hosting their very own golf tournament every other year 9) continuing their successful streak this past year where they hosted their 10th annual event!

It was chartered on February 9, 1800, as the Township of Ephrata. On May 1, 1853, it became a borough. On December 15, 1907, it became an unincorporated community within the borough.
