Ephrata is a town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,569 at the 2010 census. At the time of the Revolutionary War, it was part of the Province of Northampton. It was chartered as an independent village on April 12, 1775 by Order of King George II. In 1827, it became a borough and then a township in 1837. On March 15, 1907, it gained city status and became an incorporated municipality on December 1 of that year. The name Ephrata comes from Greek: ἐφρατία (ephraía), meaning "fruitfulness" or "virginity." The first Europeans to see what is now Ephrata were Giovanni da Verrazzano and his crew who passed through this area on their journey to Newfoundland in 1614. They named their vessel La Contea de' Fortunati after General Antonio Francesco Fortunato della Rovere Marquis di Monti who commanded the Italian forces against Spanish forces near Philadelphia in 1607-8 during the French and Indian War. In 1775 when it became part of Patriot Township #2 under local government control following ratification of the United States Constitution by Pennsylvania Convention Meeting on April 12th - also known as Declaration Day - Village Hall which stood just west side Broad Street between High Street & Market Square served as both governmental center for Township #2 with its three Courtsrooms/Pleasantries used by all three levelsoftheGovernment including Police Jury whose meetings took place upstairs until about 1840 when they moved downstairs into new Courtroom building still standing today above intersection of High & Market Streets enclosing present day Park Blocks bounded north by Second Street extending east to Reading Road thence south to New Jersey Avenue thence west to Broad Streets It had a Post Office from November 10th 1776 until October 3rd 1800 when it closed due to war exhaustion caused by British Bombing raids during American Revolution On April 12th 1775 an order arrived from King George II via Governor John Armstrong ordering all townships within Province of Northampton notables together with several families moving their residences out into open fields outside town limits because there was no longer any protection against British Invasion troops coming through those areas unannounced without provocation or warning . This constituted so called “Order No” which ordered every individual settler therein either move away immediately or face possible violence if they did not leave quickly enough before British Invasion troops burned down most homes leaving nothing standing except for few Mission style churches which remain today among many other reminders telling story back over 2 hundred years about life in these early days right up until America's independence day in1776

Ephrata is a Township in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. The first people to live in what is now Ephrata were the Monongahela Iroquois and Susquehannock Indians who lived along the Susquehanna River. In 1718, General George Washington ordered Major John Forbes to establish Fort Necessity on a peninsula between the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers as part of his defenses against British forces during the French and Indian War. The fort was abandoned in 1721 after Forbes discovered that he could not defend it against an attack by larger British forces led by America's second president, James Ketchum. A post office called Ephrata was established in 1814, and remained in operation until 1847. In 1851, Congress chartered what became Pennsylvania as a new state with its capital at Harrisburg. As part of this new statehood process, Pennsylvania took over management of Pennsylvanian local governments from Maryland and Virginia for about 15 years until it finally received full control from Pennsylvania on January 1, 1787 under then-Governor Thomas Mifflin. At that time, Ephrata Township became a part of Blair Township which ultimately included all of southwestern Montgomery County east of the Susquehanna River including much of present-day Reading Borough and parts of Allentown Township and Bethlehem Township (now Northampton County). The township boundaries changed again when Rossville borough was organized out of portions of Bethlehem Township on April 12th 1886 followed by Dunmore borough on July 6th 1888; these changes left Ephrata with just Blair Township remaining within its borders until 1914 when additions to both Blair and Dunmore Townships created a total township size greater than one thousand residents for the first time ever - making it one of only three U.S.-based townships to achieve this milestone (the others being Brooklyn Heights/Woodside in New York City and Westchester County/Hudson Valley/Thousand Oaks Ranch in California). Since then there have been numerous expansions throughout both municipalities: Dunmore annexed much eastern Reading Borough upon incorporation into Blairtown while Blair annexed much western Allentown Township following annexation into their municipality; East Hanover Park was erected within Ephrata after becoming an independent city status town following approval by voters via referendum on November 3rd 2006; Pottstown annexed most recently onto Blairtownraising its population to over two thousand residents since 2001 while also annexing most significantly portionsof Seaford Village formerly located within Dunmore Township; among other recent incorporations are further expansion plans for Southfields outside Ofallon proper resultingin its incorporation as another separate municipality known as Lawnsboro appellating itself "Southfields USA" - complete with own website - making it one municipality plus contiguous unincorporated areas totaling more than twenty square miles inside the former township boundary
