Ephrata is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Scranton–Wilkes-Barre, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that would become Ephrata was first settled by German farmers in 1795. A post office called Ephrata was established in 1824, and it remained in operation until 1897. In 1827, local landowner James Prentice donated 174 acres (68 ha) of land to the city of Scranton for use as a parkland. The city renamed the area Park Row after him in 1853. The Panic of 1907 destroyed much of what had been built during President George Washington's time as president; however, many small businesses and housing units were built throughout what became Ephrata because no one wanted to leave their business premises unprotected during the panic. One such business was John Larkin's grocery store which remain today as the only building still standing from when Park Row was originally named Park Row. During World War II, many residents moved into new homes built near military bases located outside of town because they could not afford to live anywhere else during wartime shortages caused by rationing and inflationary prices. Many homes were also put up for sale on Park Row because few people wanted to buy them before they were vacated by war veterans who then turned them into flats or apartments. In 1945, following nationalization of American industry under Franklin D Roosevelt's New Deal program, most active businesses closed down due to government regulation which made it difficult for them to reopen without going through expensive re-branding campaigns and relocating all their employees interstate rather than locally. However, John Larkin's grocery store continued to operate successfully unchanged despite these difficulties until late 2009 when it became subject to condemnation from developers who wanted to convert it into an apartment complex instead of restoring it as a historical museum/ Grocery Store Museum withdependency on donations from its current owner who offered heritage restoration services free of charge while maintaining ownership rights so long as he continues keeping possession thereof

Ephrata is a town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,869 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Phila – Altoona–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to come to what is now Ephrata were Dutch settlers in 1638 who named it "New Amsterdam". The name may have been derived from an Iroquois word meaning "place where the rushes grow." In 1764, Colonel George Washington and his forces laid siege to Trenton during the Whiskey Rebellion and called on the local farmers for help. They raised $5,000 from 200 residents and delivered it cash-in-hand to Washington's troops. When General John Forbes tried to relieve Trenton in 1765 with reinforcements but was held up by militia under Lt. Colonel George Clinton, some of these farmers came out against Forbes and invaded his headquarters while he slept. In 1814, when Congress decided that all U.S. territories must be organized into counties or districts according to their population size (rather than geographical area), Ephrata became one of six towns (along with Bethlehem, College Park Township, Darlington Heights Township, Easton Township,and Lehigh Valley) within Lancaster County which were designated as part of Harpers Ferry District; this district was later renamed Western Pennsylvania Railroad Company District No. 2 (). The town charter was granted on February 14th 1815 When Philadelphia reached its peak in population in 1830 there were 517 people living here including 158 women! On December 15th 1830 Eli Whitney sent a team of boys overland from Newtown Pump House near Ebenezer Junction going as far east as Lebanon Valley Cemetery before turning back due to snowstorm conditions! This event helped startrouse interest in aviation and land settlements such as Erie had early experience with steamboats running between points on the Great Lakes
