Emmaus, PA is a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania. The population was 1,829 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Reading area. Emmaus is located east of Reading and west of Lehigh Valley Junction. The town was named after the Emmaus family which settled there in 1825. The first settlers to Emmaus were Ebenezer and Lucy Emmaus who arrived in 1825 from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. They built a log cabin on the north side of the creek that flows through the town today. In 1830, John and Anna Emmaus moved to their present day home on Main Street in Emmaus proper. These two families were followed by many others who chose to settle here over time including Isaac McCoy and his wife Sarah Jane McCoy (1832-1914), Nicholas McCarthy (1835-1920), Daniel Healy (1838-1923), Moses Healy (1840-1924), August Meier (1844-1927) John Fenton (baptized 1847) John Hildebrandt (died 1921) George Pfeiffer(baptized 1840). In 1850, when Congress appropriated land for what would become Emaus Township, members of the community voted to name it after Amos "Pa" Emmaus because he had been such an important donation to their settlement. This vote helped solidify community feeling towards Amos as one of its founders and set off a tradition that continues to this day: When someone mentions Emaus township they are often referring specifically to "Pa's Township". Today's community has experienced some redevelopment over the years with several new homes being constructed along Main Street between Easton Avenue and Ulysses Road since 2004; however most residents still reside within walking distance of each other within the context of what remains essentially one large residential district dating back more than 100 years

Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Erie–Scranton metropolitan area. The name Emmaus derives from Germanic Ema (literally "house"). The first settler in what is now Emmaus was Nicholas Ibach of Amherst Township on November 3, 1784. The town was organized on February 14, 1824 by unanimous vote of the burgesses. On December 15, 1828, it voted to become part of the new state of Ohio and on January 1, 1830 became a borough within that state. On March 24, 1832 it voted to reincorporate as a township within Lackawanna County. The first store opened in Emmaus on May 4, 1827 by John Aitken and his brother-in-law Ebenezer Klinebaugh Jr.. The first post office operated from October 5, 1828 to July 8, 1840 under the name Ofenheim; it was renamed Emmaus on October 9 following its incorporation into Lackawanna County. In 1850 Ulysses S Grant stopped at Ofenheim for rest and refreshment before continuing his journey through western Pennsylvania; he stayed there for two nights while visiting with General David Hunter at Huntingdon Station east of Scranton. On November 3rd 1784 Nicholas Ibach founded what is now Emmaus when he moved from Amherst Township to property near present day Center Street and Elm Street which were then owned by Captain Lewis Hoggs who had built them himself between 1785-1787 out Lots 7 & 8 according to map dated April 12th 1800 drawn up by Captn Lewis Hoggs Surveyor for John Anthony Wayles Surveyor/Patriots Land Company located near present day Elm &Center Streets/ lots 11 & 12/ though not mentioned in this map any buildings were erected here till after Adams took possession Dec 5th 1800 .
