There has been a history of high capacity conversions in Emmaus, Pennsylvania. In the late 1800s, businesses in the town started to convert space into apartments and businesses. By the early 1900s, Emmaus had become a thriving community with an expanding economy. The population increased so much that the city began to overcrowd and create problems with space availability. To solve this problem, the city began to develop a plan to build more housing. The city first planned on building 4,000 units but found that they could not provide enough space. They then began to plan on building 10,000 units but again found that they were unable to meet demand. The city then decided to build 20,000 units but again found that they were not able to meet demand for space. They eventually decided on using land from one of their shopping malls for this project. The conversion of the mall was successful and helped increase the number of homes in Emmaus by 50%. This project helped solve one of the issues that was causing overcrowding and helped make Emmaus a thriving community once again.

First, businesses have become more efficient as they have become increasingly digitized. They also realize that increased efficiency and productivity is key to success in the business world. Additionally, there is a growing demand for higher-capacity items. As businesses become more competitive, they want to make sure that they can offer their products and services to as many people as possible. This means that they need to be able to handle larger quantities of product or services quickly and easily. Finally, there is a growing realization that large volumes of product or service can be sold at lower prices if they are delivered over multiple channels instead of just one. This image is then sent back to the device that is used for checkout, instead of having to wait for the item to be mailed back in from the manufacturer or pulled from an inventory stock. According to Kantar Media, rapid scanning has seen large success in the retail market, with J.C. Penney reporting that their scans have increased sales by 50% since debuting the technology in late 2017.
