Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a small town located in Butler County, Pennsylvania. The population was 5,771 at the 2010 census. Emmaus is one of the oldest places in Butler County and has been listed as such by the United States Census Bureau for over 100 years. The name derives from German words meaning "a passage" or "a crossroads." Emmaus is also known for its many religious denominations including Lutheranism, Methodist Episcopal Church, and Presbyterian Church. The first settler in what would become Emmaus was Andreas Widder in 1784. Widder ranched land on what would become the eastern edge of Emmaus Township and built a cabin there. He and his family were killed by Indians while out harvesting deer in 1802. Another early settler was Isaac Slocum who arrived in 1796. Slocum erected a house on the east side of US Route 422 about two miles north of present-day Emmaus center. He and his family lived there until 1800 when they moved to another location near present day West Union Station. In 1824, John Purdy founded a farm called Purdy's Corner on what became Emmas Crossing Road (now US Route 422). In 1828, he sold his farm to Andrew Beale who ran it until 1840 when he sold it to Nicholas Naylor who operated it until 1865 when it passed into private hands again. In 1868, John Ritchie bought the Naylor property and developed it into a large community named after him - Ritchie's Corners which still exists today as part of the village of Emmaus PA within Butler County PA boundaries. In 1896, Swedish immigrants Anders Swedberg and Arvid Haglund founded Swedenborg Memorial Chapel which remains active today as Swedenborg United Methodist Church with services being held every Sunday morning at 9:00am ET since 1906 outside of the current building located off Southend Drive adjacent to Swedesboro Park across from South Union Elementary School although services have been conducted inside since 1957! On November 3rd, 1898 local resident Willard Hanks created an unincorporated area called Dutch Hollow which included all or parts of modern day Granger Township (northwest corner now part of Upper Darby), Potter Valley (southwest corner now part of Clinton Township), Shanklin Manor (northernmost corner now part of Bellefonte) and portions of both Lower Darby Township (east corner now part of Monaca) - all within Butler County PA boundaries! This area later became known as Dutch Hollow because so few people spoke English then that everyone subscribed to a newsletter entitled "Dutch Holes" distributed primarily through movers & shakers businesses!

Emmaus was a small town in Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The community was founded in 1798 by Amoskeag and his wife Esther. The name Emmaus is derived from the Hebrew word "emet" which means "a little piece of land." The first settler in Emmaus was Amoskeag, who arrived in 1798. He built a small cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River. The town grew quickly and by 1820 there were over 100 people living there. It became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1838, the Kirtland Road Railway extended through Emmaus and began to carry passengers between Philadelphia and Erie. This new development led to a growth in business for the local merchants. Soon enough, Emmaus had become an important commercial center within Berks County. By 1850, Emmaus had developed into a large city with over 1,000 residents. It continued to grow until it reached its peak around 1900 when it had over 3,500 residents. In recent years however,emplaus has slowly declined due to steady economic decline as well as population growth outside of their borders
