In Emmaus, Pennsylvania, the first commercial gun mags were started in 1836 by a group of men who pooled their money to buy some Firearms powder. The first issue of the Emmaus Gun Magazine was published on November 1st, 1836. The magazine was created as an early warning system for citizens of the town about potential law enforcement problems with firearms. In 1840, following the American Revolution and during the time that rifles began being issued in large numbers to soldiers throughout central and eastern United States, Emmaus Gun Magazine turned its attention to rifle shooting competitions. The next year (1841), they opened a second mag which became known as "The Rifleman's Journal." In 1847-48, they produced what is now considered the definitiveprinted edition of guns & ammunition information for Americans - "Gunsmith's Assistant." This issue also contained advertisements for handguns and other firearms products. In 1851-52, another mag called "The Pistolero" was published which focused on handgun competition and target shooting. It is believed that this mag may have been printed at least twice per month(probably more). From 1861 until 1865 there was only one mag dedicated to guns & ammo publication called "Guns Illustrated". After thatmagazine folded due to lack of interest from readers it was reprinted elsewhere with different cover designs over time

The Gottfrieds were German immigrants who had come to America to prospect for land and started a farm around 1796. The first settler on the site of Emmaus was Johannes Gutenberg, who invented the printing press in 1455. In 1824, Emmaus became one of the townships within what was then known asumberland County. It was elevated to a borough in 1901. In 1961, it became part of the new city of Philadelphia over which it has continued to serve as an integral part ever since. The history of Emmaus is full of individual and community impact that has helped shape its present day identity and culture. These experiences have also helped make Emaus one of the most diverse communities in all of Pennsylvania – with residents from many different backgrounds living together in close-knit settlements throughout its history. Emmaus is a small town in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania, located about 12 miles southwest of Pittsburgh and 8 miles east of Emmaus Junction. The community was founded by John and Susanna Emmaus in 1820 as a farming village on the banks of the Allegheny River. In 1840, after the death of Susanna Emmaus, John moved his family to nearby Bethlehem to become a Methodist minister. The two villages merged into one in 1845, and Emmaus became known as "The Manchester of the East." In 1863, following the American Civil War, members of General Robert E. Lee's army passed through Emaus on their way to Gettysburg. As they were passing through, some soldiers stopped at the edge of town and set up camp there for three nights while they transported food and supplies back to Confederate forces farther north. This event is often cited as helping turn Emaus into an important strategic center during the war. After Reconstruction ended in 1865, many businesses closed due to lack of patronage or competition from larger cities such as Philadelphia or Baltimore. However, John Emmaus continued to operate his farm until his death in 1897; he was buried at Elmwood Cemetery in Emmaus proper alongside his wife Susanna and daughter-in-law Anna (née McCarty). In 1911, John's grandson George Fenton donated 10 acres (40 hectares) along with $10 per acre ($1 million today) towards construction of a public library in honor of his grandfather's memory. The first building opened its doors on October 1, 1913; it originally served as a schoolhouse before being converted into a library building again in 2006–2007 under new management and programming auspices from Area History Associates Incorporated (AHAI). Today, Emaus has experienced significant growth over the past decade: its population increased by 50% between 2000 and 2010,[2] its economy has shifted focus towards downtown business services,[3] and its municipal government has created several environment-friendly initiatives[4]. Some aspects that have been particularly successful include the creation of several parks including North Park which offers panoramic views across downtown Pittsburgh; the development - beginning with an office park adjacent to DowntownEmmaus - supplying much needed employment opportunities for local residents; and most notably the installation last year of solar energy systems onto all city buildings retrofitted with state-of-the art inverters.[5] In recent years however there have also been controversies surrounding issues such as zoning changes that would allow commercial development within residential areas near historically Black churches[6], anti-immigrant sentiment evident throughout social media memes mocking Polish immigrants[7], vandalism against local businesses[8], etc.; these have led some residents TO voice their concerns directly to city officials.[9][10] Nevertheless overall things are going well for Emmaus – despite occasional challenges – considering both historical context (eclipsed by more recent events) AND current trends!
Emmaus was a small village located in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 515 at the 2000 census. Emmaus is now part of the town of Emmaus and is located east of State Route 6 in eastern Bucks County. Emmaus was first known as "Oshocton". In 1754, General George Washington's army passed through the area on their way south to Yorktown. As they were passing by, General Washington ordered his troops to stop and spend the night at Oshocton; here he built a crude log cabin for himself and his officers. The next day, when he returned to headquarters after spending the night at Oshocton, he found that all his tents had been burned down by the Indians who ambush us while we are resting- therefore I order my men not to take any chances hereafter with these savages."
