The first permanent settler in what is now Emmaus Township was Peter Kriegel who arrived in 1763. He operated a farm on land that he acquired from George Washington near present day Onancock Road and Race Street. As time passed various families moved into the township including those of Nicholas Wagner (1793-1864) who farmed an Estate on Monongahela River opposite Mount Lebanon Cemetery; David Potter (1810-92) settled along Springvale Avenue; Conrad Weiser (1813-) settled just south of current day State Route 611; Martin Breuning settled along Race Street east of Depot Road; Jacob Klingenstein settled along Depot Road northwest of present day Strawberry Lane; Gottlieb Schneiderman settled southeast corner of present day Northumberland Avenue and Springvale Avenue; Christoph Schneiderman lived on what is now Northumberland Avenue between Springvale Avenue and Strawberry Lane when he came to live with his father about 1800.; Johann Hauer settling northeast corner of present day Northumberland Avenue and Easton Street about 1820.; also John Krieger bought some land east side Railroad tracks of Beaver Creek about 1800., one mile northwest from current site line between Squirrel Hill Borough Line RR tracks #1 & 2 & US 21&24 highway

Emmaus is a town in Greene County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Erie–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Emmaus was founded in 1795 by George Washington and his family as a small farmstead on the north side of what is now Elmira Road. In 1837, the town became a borough and in 1889 it became an incorporated village. The first settler to arrive in Emmaus was George Washington who arrived with his family in 1795 from Mount Vernon, Virginia. The Washingtons were farmers and founded their farmstead on what is now Elmira Road on the north side of present-day Emmaus Township. They were joined by other early settlers including Nicholas Coles and John Purdy in 1800. By 1837, all of Greene County had been organized into townships and when Emmaus became a borough on November 3 that year it absorbed the villages of Dunkirk (1827), Springdale (1839), Canisius (1845), Bethel (1854) and others within its boundaries. A post office called Emmaus was established in 1837 and remained open until 1861 when it was moved to neighboring Canisius due to postal strikes caused by American Civil War military service over there. In 1889, Emmaus became an incorporated village under section 7 Pennsylania Act No 6992 which granted voting rights to residents over age 16 years old for all male citizens over 21 years old living within municipality limits). The incorporation lasted until 1907 when it reverted back to its pre-incorporation status as a township with one representative per township vote size no matter how many residents lived therein). In 1915, sections 2 & 4 of Plainfield Township were annexed by Emmaus becoming part of the new city of Erie following prohibitionist movements throughout most of America during this time period led by Mayor William Fenton Smithwicktowichs Seeley campaign slogan "Erie For All". As part as giving more tax opportunities to those residing within City limits while still maintaining distinction between City/Township lines; also annexation meantMore than doubling agricultural acreage previously owned or leased outside City Limits - land that would later be developed into much larger communities such as Buffalo PA & Salamanca NY etc... This act also increased business opportunities for local businesses due To easy access to Interstate 80 Exit #5 & Erie Canal crossings making transportation easier for goods reaching& exporting markets all across North America
