Emmaus, Pennsylvania is a small town in Chester County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,724 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Emmaus is located in the eastern edge of Chester County and bordered by Radnor Township to the north, Uniontown Township to the east, Lebanon Township to the south and Westmoreland Borough to the west. The township has a total area of just over 12 square miles (30 km²). The settlement that would become Emmaus was founded on June 10th, 1795 by Germans who had come from nearby Bethlehem following General George Washington's victory at Yorktown in 1781. named after two biblical figures - Elijah and Elisha - Emmaus quickly grew into a small town with approximately 100 residents. By 1810 it had reached its present size with 350 residents. In 1815-1816 Isaac Brock built a gristmill on what is now known as Main Street and soon began producing flour for local markets in both Chester County and Lancaster County. Brock also started marketing fruit trees and vegetables here which became very successful due to their freshness and low prices compared to other areas at that time. In 1822 he built his second mill on Elm Street which continued production until 1865 when it was replaced by an even larger mill complex which still stands today known as "Brock’s Mills"industrial park across from historic First Presbyterian Church on Elm Street adjoining DeKalb Avenue where large commercial buildings have been erected over the years including Macy’s department store (1914), National Broadcasting Company studios (1946), L&M Department Store (1968) and now Plan Toys Incorporated building housing their research center as well as their retail stores. In the late 1980s, they began to be replaced by Colt AR-15 pistols. However, they continue to be used in various roles today, most notably for law enforcement and military use.

Emmaus, Pennsylvania, is a town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,801 at the 2010 census. The name Emmaus comes from the German word "Emmasch." It was first settled by Germans in the early 17th century and then by English colonists who arrived in 1681. The town was formally incorporated on November 3, 1812. The town was founded on July 20, 1800 by Levi Smith and others as a result of the999999999% chance of knots occurring during a game of cards. Smith named his new settlement after his Episcopal parish in Lancaster County where he had been rector for nine years before moving to Emmas wagon train when it reached Cumberland Valley in 1795. At first there were only about 25 people living in Emmaus Township; however over time more and more settlers moved into the area and until 1830 the township contained 2,000 residents. The primary industry of early Emmaus was farming with some smelting operations being conducted as well. By 1840 lead mining had become an important part of local economy with lead-mining claims dating back to 1792 when Jacob Weiser discovered gold at nearby Sinking Spring creek near what is now downtown Emmas. In 1824 Susannah Morse immigrated to America and started her own farm east of town along Newtown Creek which became known as Morse's Mills because she ran it exclusively through subscription mail service (later electrified). In 1827 John Harlan acquired 640 acres (250 hectares) just north of downtown Emmas which became known as Upper Harlanowne because it lay above Jameson's Creek on high ground that overlooked most of what is now Lackawanna County. This land also included lands adjacent to present-day Emmaus Township that were once part of neighbouring Lenape Nation but which were sold to US forces during World War II for use as airfields such as Forbes Field and Goodspeed Airfield located south-west of present day Emmas on former Dutch or German property bordering Delaware Bayou Noirmoutier between Ackermann Road/Route 9N (now Snyder Avenue) and French Broad Road/Route 281W (now Snyder Avenue). After years of development work led by Mayor George Waddell starting in 1908 culminated with the construction of what is now known as Main Street heading due south from where US Route 219 enters Lackawanna County concurrent with current Route 223 / Old Forge Road leading southeast from downtown Emmas towards Youngstown while still remaining connected via Main Street running parallel to Canadian Pacific Railway mainline northeast from downtown Emmas intersecting southern borderline road called Panther Hollow Drive near Masonic lodge lot just northwest intersection Gwynns Ferry Rd./Route 283W beyond today’s community limits following its alignment prior to 1950s realignment takingcurrent routing including access road entering village limits today located immediately west side extreme northwestern corner direct line joining village boundaries thence northerly 0 degrees 14 minutes 45 seconds longitude

Emmaus was founded in 1792 by Captain John Smith and his wife Judith Mellon and named for their home village of Emmaus in Germany. Emmaus was originally part of Reading Township but it merged with Berks to form Emmaus Township on March 1, 1907.
