The first expansion of the Mount Airy Rifle Range was in 1896. The range was opened by Colonel George H. Brown and Dr. John Wittek, both from Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania. At that time, the rifle range consisted of a shooting gallery with 18 rifles and two shotguns, a gaming room with six machines for playing cards or cribbage, and a small bay window to see the targets. In 1907, the rifle range was enlarged with an addition of three ranges: one with 36 rifles and four shotguns; another with 48 rifles and eight shotguns; and another with 60 rifles and 10 shotguns. In 1912, new targets were added to therange: 100-pounders (12 ga) dummy rounds made of concrete instead of metal tubing so that shooters could practice reloading their guns; 20-inch steel plates placed at 30 degrees intervals on each side of a track to simulate an elephant’s trunk;and 40-foot long steel target tubes filled with 25 round shot weights ranging from 1/2 pound to 1 pound each. In 1916 (or 1917), Major General John J. Pershing ordered alterations made to the rifle range which included adding two more ranges: one for 56 guns (24 Remington Model 870s) and another for 70 guns (30 Remington Model 775). Additionally, new targets were added including T-shaped iron shields places at 45 degrees angles 3 feet apart on either side of an elevated platform surmounted by an American flagpole at 12 feet tall. In 1922 (or 1923), additional alterations were made to the rifle range which included expanding it into what is now known as “the green zone” - comprising all areas except for Building #1 where only Trapshot Alley exists today - making it available to members in all directions except Building #1 through use of tunnels dug below ground level leading back out onto Main Street outside Building #1 where they currently continue fire exercises without having access to any other parts of the gun range! This enlargement also allowed membership in adjoining towns such as Elizabethtown within easy reach should one wish to join forces against their town’s member! As bullets became increasingly more advanced over time this expansion continued until 1934 when Huntingdon Rifle & Pistol Club replaced Elizabethtown Rifle Range as its parent club after it failed financial audits conducted by state government inspectors! In 1935 (& 1936), additional changes were made which included increasing size limit from 36 rifles up to 80 firearms (+4 shotgun rooms); providing own building(s) for storage & use off main street near entrance; opening trapshot alley (-Building 1 since 1922) up completely TO ALL members FOR FREE FOR ANY NON GUN OWNER IN THE AREA! Finally in 1938 (& 1939), Huntingdon Rifle & Pistol Club built its present day complex consisting of buildings numbered 2-5 on South Main Street within easy walking distance OF THEIR OWN GYMNASIUM AS WELL AS A PARCEL OF SHOTGUN ROOMS ON FOURTH FLOOR OF BUILDING 2!)
Elizabethtown is a small town in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,884 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Elizabethtown is named after the Elizabeth family who settled there in 1793. The first European settlers in what is now Beaver County were Frenchmen and their Indian allies who arrived in 1671. They called this area "Erie". In 1753, George Washington's father, James Washington, bought land here that he donated to the government for military purposes. The main avenue in Elizabethtown today was laid out during this time by Captain John Ford as part of his development of Fordstown near Pittsburgh. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne and his army invaded Pennsylvania and occupied Elizabethtown until it was relieved by General John Forbes on September 11th of that year. On December 2nd of that year, Forbes' forces burned down the courthouse which stood on Main Street today. The town began to grow rapidly due to its strategic location along two major trade routes - one leading east to Philadelphia through Monmouth Junction (now Allentown) and another leading west to Erie through areas now known as Canonsburg and Easton Township - making it an important stop on these travel paths. A post office was established at Elizabethtown in 1827; it continued operating until 1840 when it was moved to neighboring Steel City because steel production had become widespread in America at that time. In 1830, built upon a large farmstead developed by Major Augustus Woodward between present-day Oakwood Road and Middlebrook Road south of downtownElizabethtown – soon becoming one of Pittsburgh’s most thriving neighborhoods – saw its first schoolhouse constructed within sight of its current location (now 4th Avenue S.). This building served as both a public school for students from kindergarten through eighth grade until 1856 when statehood made public education available exclusively to white citizens under then-new law #2 (then codified as Pa Const Art I). At this time also came construction on what became known as “the Gothic Revival” style brick courthouse which sitsURRENTLY on Main Street opposite 3rd Avenue S.– having been erected between 1830-1835 following designs by architect Isaac Stevens over sketches drawn up by engineer David Hume Richardson! In addition To Our brick Courthouse located on Main Street esoterically our Historical Museum consisting Of A Victorian House Which Was Built For Mrs Wm Haddonfield As One Of Her Mansion Homes And Also Contains Manyhistoric Items From Our Time Including An Old Cannon Used By The American Revolution And Other Objectives housed inside Our museum are many antique items from our era such as an old cannon used during the American Revolution which we acquired from a local gunsmith who traveled throughout our country helping collectors acquire historical arms
