Another early settler were James Fenton who built a log cabin on what is now East First Street in 1845 and John Dickson who erected a small frame house on what is now West Second Street in 1848. In 1850, Central Railroad came throughElizabethtown providing transportation for goods from southern Lancaster County to northern Berks County; this helped spur economic growth throughoutElizabethstown because people could not only bring goods but also sell them locally. After years of growth, steel manufacturing arrived intoElizabethtown during World War II as many local companies experienced wartime shortages of supplies due to rationing; this led to an increase in business activity which continues into present day thanks to various businesses withinElizabethtown including Applebees BBQ & Pub., PNC Bank & Trust Company, JCPenney & Co., Asphalt Paving Services Inc., Verizon Wireless - Elizabethton (now Wells Fargo), York Furniture Store & Lumberyard before finally closing down after the war ended some 50 years ago today!
