Elizabethtown is located in the Lehigh Valley, about 20 miles northeast of Philadelphia. It was founded by the Lenape Native Americans in 1718. The town was named for Elizabeth, Duchess of Monmouth, who had been sent to Pennsylvania as a prisoner of war by her husband, Prince George II of Britain. The town became a center for agriculture and manufacturing after Pennsylvanian settlers arrived in the area in the early 1800s. In 1827, Elizabethtown became a incorporated municipality and it remains an unincorporated community today. The C&O Canal passed through Elizabethtown from 1825 to 1831, providing water transportation between the Delaware River and Pennsylvania. Elizabethtown experienced significant growth during the 19th century due to its strategic location and its role as a commercial center. In 1865, General Robert Ewing destroyed part of the original Lenape village near present-day Elizabethtown while conducting an operation to clear land for plantations in South Carolina. This event has been called one of America's most notorious frontier massacres. After Ewing's raid, many Lenape people were forced to move away from their homes and find new lives in other parts of North America. As a result,Elizabethtown experienced increasing population growth during the 19th century; however, it still lacked infrastructure such as schools or hospitals that would allow it to maintain its status as an important agricultural center. The first brick building on Main Street was erected in 1870; this structure served as both the town hall and meeting room until 1922 when a new school was built downtown which continues to be used today. One ofthe most notable events associated with Elizabethtonn occurred on November 2nd 1921 when over 1 million people participated in what is now known as "The Great American Thanksgiving Parade." The parade traveled down Second Avenue from Broad Street east past Market Square before concluding at Independence Hall where 100 floats comprised almost all aspectsof American society including theaters (eighth edition), department stores (eleventh edition), brewers (twelfth edition), news agencies (thirteenth edition) and more! During World War I, Francis Scott Key wrote his famous poem "The Star-Spangled Banner" at Keyes House on High Street while serving with Company K Fifth Regiment Pennsylvania Infantry Regiment based out of Yardley Heights Station PA

Elizabethtown is a small town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,642 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. Elizabethtown is located on the eastern border of Fayette County and the city of Pittsburgh. The first Europeans to visit what is now Elizabethtown were traders from Maryland in 1682. In 1763, Colonel George Washington's army invaded and occupied York County during the American Revolution, and soon after General Washington's headquarters were established here. Many of his officers and men stayed in Elizabethtown while they occupation took place; many others went into service with General Howe or with other units operating in Pennsylvania during the Revolutionary War. After York County was split into two parts following the war, Elizabethtown became one of two spots in Fayette County where Loyalist settlers lived while their pro-Revolutionary compatriots participated in Reconstruction (the other being Monessen). In 1814, when Congress passed an act establishing a system for regulating commerce between states by a commission called "the National Banking Act," Elizabethtown became one of its original members as part of that act's "First National Bank." That bank helped promote growth throughout southeastern Pennsylvania as commercial activity increased along both rivers which ran through town - especially around downtown - due to easy access to shipping lanes on the Delaware River and railroad lines running through it. During World War II, much economic activity took place here as factories produced goods for military use: munitions plants located near present-day Pittston Heights created jobs for locals; steel mills manufacturing tanks and airplanes built farms close by; shipyards constructed submarines and destroyer escorts; agricultural production also flourished due to ample sunlight available year-round across wide swaths of this region Thanks largely to these endeavors/many more since then - not only hasElizabethtown grown rapidly economically but also its reputation has become increasingly internationalized – earning accolades such as being named one of "America's Top 10 most livable cities" by Forbes magazine multiple times over (including twice consecutively) since 2000! In 1792, the first white settlement in Elizabethtown was made when Daniel Boone and his band of settlers found a piece of land on the Susquehanna River. The town was named after Queen Elizabeth II, who was then the King of England. In 1825, the town became a borough and in 1853 it became a city. In 1909, Elizabethtown merged with nearby Allentown to form one municipality. On July 1, 1921, all municipalities within Pennsylvania were dissolved and replaced by the new Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as a result of the state's new constitution.
