For over 170 years, the people of Elizabethtown have enjoyed the benefits of owning and using firearms. The town is located in Huntingdon County in central Pennsylvania, and its location makes it a target for criminals and robbers. On October 16, 1792, the first public gun show in Elizabethtown was held. The event was organized by John Brown and was open to anyone who wanted to buy or sell firearms. At the show, guns were available for purchase from both sellers and buyers.
Elizabethtown is a town in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 3,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Allentown– Bethlehem–Easton, PA Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Elizabethtown was Nicholas Hogg who arrived in 1736 and built a log cabin on the present site of the courthouse. Other early settlers included Daniel Dorman and his sons David and John Dorman. The first school in Elizabethtown was built by Reverend John Sargent in 1753. The first store in Elizabethtown was opened by Jacob Hecker on Main Street in 1806. The town became an incorporated municipality on December 3, 1837. In 1847, three brothers - Gideon Welles (1817-1892), Samuel Welles (1820-1896) and Nathan Welles (1825-1902) - founded their own grocery business on Third Avenue between Market and High Streets. This Grocery Merchants Bank served as the nucleus of what would become the Elizabethtown Savings Bank & Trust Company which still exists today as one of Lehigh Valley's most respected institutions. In 1865, George Atherton donated land to form a public park that now includes Atherton Park Elementary School and two other elementary schools: Bethel AME Church (founded by Rev John Sargent) and First Presbyterian Church (founded by Presbyterians). From this foundation grew what is today known as "The University" with its colleges of arts & sciences including Quinnipiac University; Moynihan College; Armstrong Community College; Asbury Hall; Stroudsburg University; Lock Haven University; Temple Beth Israel Deaconess Hospitality School; among others After years of growth by incorporators led by Mayor James Laughlin (served from 1907 until his death in 1928), On July 1, 1909, Elizabethtown merged with neighboring Bethlehem Township to form what would eventually be called "Lehigh Valley". With its newest city limits extending beyond fifthirty mile marker into Delaware County (!), Elizabethstown had effectively grown twice as fast as Bethlehem Township did! However growth continued apace into the 1920s when new businesses were founded such as Wernick's Department Store which became one of the largest department stores west of Philadelphia after opening its doors near downtown on North Second Street in 1922 – becoming one of only a handful of independently managed stores remaining within Pennsylvanian retail centers throughout much of the 1930s before collapsing due to lack Of competition Eventually annexing nearby Easton Township beginning around 1940 making it home to over 60% OF ALL THE LOCAL BUSINESS IN LEHIGH VALLEY AS OF 1988 !! However despite numerous expansions during this time period little substantive change took place to either community or identity outside a few dozen high school students serving both towns together through extracurricular activities

In 1790, Elizabethtown was a small town of about 100 people. It had been founded by William Penn and his followers in the Susquehanna Valley after they were driven out of Pennsylvania by the British. The town was named for Elizabeth, the wife ofPenn. The first settler in Elizabethtown was John Haddock, who arrived in 1791. In 1814, the population of Elizabethtown numbered 335 people. During the American Civil War, Elizabethtown sided with the Union side and many residents fought in the war. After the war,Elizabethtown experienced growth thanks to new settlements established along its river banks. In 1919, when Pennsylvania became an independent state,Elizabethtown became part of York County. In 1970, when York County merged into Lancaster County,Elizabethtown lost its status as a separate municipality and it now lies within Lancaster County's boundaries. Today, Elizabethtown is a small community with a population of around 150 people. Its economy is based on agriculture and tourism; it has several tourist attractions including an amusement park and a movie theater.
The town of Elizabethtown was founded by the Potters in 1789. The first settler in the area, Abraham Potter, arrived in 1775. The town was named for Queen Elizabeth II of England, who visited the area during a visit to America in 1785.Elizabethtown quickly became a thriving community and attracted many settlers from surrounding counties. By 1814, the population had reached 500 residents. In 1824, Elizabethtown was incorporated as a borough and began to grow more rapidly. By 1830, the population had reached 1,000 residents and by 1840 it had reach 2,000 residents.In 1856, Elizabethtown experienced one of its most dramatic changes when it became the site of the Battle of Gettysburg which led to one of history's largest civil rights movements. After years of lobbying by citizens and businesses throughout the town, on July 4th, 1863 General Robert E Lee surrendered at Yorktown Heights after an epic battle that lasted three days.The victory at Gettysburg helped rally many Americans against slavery and opened up new opportunities for black Americans11 years later - something that would continue into the 20th century
