The original store and tavern were built on what is now State Street between Third and Fourth Streets. In 1825, the township was organized and Easton became its own municipality with a population of about 100 people. During World War II, Easton played an important role in supplying munitions for both American and British forces during the war effort. In addition to manufacturing munitions such as bombs and torpedoes, Easton also produced military vehicles such as tanks and artillery pieces. Today, Easton continues to be an important community with many businesses including banks (JPMorgan Chase & Co., HSBCBank), health care providers (AARP/HMO/PensionsWest Penn Healthcare), educational institutions (Pennsylvania State University - main campus), as well as several churches including St John's Catholic Church which has a large student body; First Baptist Church which has been around since 1796; and Protestant First United Methodist Church which opened its doors in 1865).
