Easton is a small town in the state of Pennsylvania. The population was 1,753 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Easton is located about 20 miles west of Philadelphia and 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. The first people to live in what is now Easton were the Susquehannocks. They moved from present-day southeastern Massachusetts to what is now eastern Pennsylvania in 1795. They built their first log cabin on a bend in the Allegheny River. In 1810, John Dickinson, Governor of Pennsylvania, created a township for the settlers called "Easton." The Township Act of 1811 gave each settler one vote in Township meetings. In 1814, Easton became a county seat when it was united with Huntingdon County to form Blair County. Most early residents were farmers who raised corn, cows and horses for local markets and also did some lumbering and manufacturing as well as ranching until railroads arrived in the late 19th century These days most residents are still farmer/ ranchers or directly engaged with their land economy; however there are several businesses that have sprung up over time including one large grocery store (Plymouth Hardware), two banks (the Citizens National Bank & Trust Company - founded 1865 and First National Bank - founded 1918) as well as numerous small shops, restaurants and other services catering to locals and visitors alike

It is part of the Pottsville–Easton, PA Micropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Easton were Englishmen hired by Captain John Smith to explore and map the Susquehanna Valley in 1609-10. They named their new settlement "New Harmony" after their home town of Harmonization in England. In 1614, William Penn founded the Quaker colony of Westmoreland in what is now Easton Township. The first settler was John Hite who arrived in 1751 and built a cabin on what is now Second Street. From then until 1824, Easton was known as "Harmony's Landing." In 1828, during the Mexican-American War, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna set out from Mexico City with an army and surrounded Easton Creek on September 25th while it was still dark; he intended to destroy all British forces within enemy territory. However, only 6 men knew about his plan and they managed to escape before any damage could be done. A combined force of American soldiers and militia succeeded in driving Santa Anna's army back into Mexico City without losing any lives or capturing any property. On October 15th 1850 Elisha Gray organized a meeting for settlers near where Cherry Hill stands today which resulted in formation of Borough of Easton by resolution passed at a meeting held December 2nd 1850 . On November 3rd 1860 David Thompson formed a company with thirty others called 'Thompsonville' west side lot #1 bordered by Third Street across Cherry Hill Avenue
