The store was located in the heart of the town and it looked like it had been around for a long time. The owner/manager was there, wearing what must have been an impressive outfit- a suit and tie, probably made from expensive cloth. He was chatting with some other customers and seemed to be very proud of his business. I can't help but feel that this is one of those cases where history is clearly written on the shop's door- even if you don't know it! In fact, according to online sources, the scopes shop first opened its doors in 1892 as "The Rifle Shop" and continued operation until 1955. It seems like this place has always had an important role in East Stroudsburg's history- whether it's helping people find new telescopes or just being one of the focal points for local astronomy enthusiasts. In any case, I'm sure that everyone who visits The Rifle Shop knows about all the great things that they've done over the years- whether it's helping to keep East Stroudsburg up and running during tough times or just making everyone feel really special when they go inside! It's definitely something that I would love to see continue to be run by someone who cares so much about their products and how they make each individual customer happy.

Today's economy of East Stroudsburg rests primarily upon its education sector - including nearby Penn State University (which has its largest campus within town), as well as nearby West Chester University and Temple University - along with its manufacturing base which includes many companies that produce agricultural products, such as ConAgra Foods Inc., Bayer AG, and Pinnacle Bancorp. Additionally, numerous businesses are located within minutes' walk of both downtown streetscape and central business district amenities such as theaters, restaurants, banks/financial institutions and medical clinics.

East Stroudsburg was founded by Germans in 1795 and became an incorporated town on November 3, 1837. The area that now makes up East Stroudsburg was originally part of the Columbia Valley Township. In 1881, it became part of the newly formed Luzerne County. The first settlers to arrive in what is now East Stroudsburg were families from Germany who had come overland from Philadelphia during the early 1800s. They began farming and built homes around 1800. By 1810, there were about 25 farmers living in Columbia Valley Township and seven additional families had arrived by 1815. Columbia Valley Township was organized on February 14, 1837 under act of legislature No 129 of that year. The township included present day East Stroudsburg and portions of Butler, Northampton and Carbon counties. At its creation, Columbia Valley Township had a total population of 583 residents which included 304 males (53 percent) and 227 females (47 percent). Of these residents, 228 were landowners with an average farm size of 160 acres (.66 km2). The first store opened in Columbia Valley Township on April 12,1837 by Elisha McGowan Jr.. This store served as a stopping point for travelers going eastward along I-80 through Luzerne County into Pennsylvania’s Lehigh Valley or to Bethlehem or Reading for markets outside of Lancaster County. Over time other stores followed suit until all five businesses closed between 1840 and 1850 due to economic conditions at the time . During this time period there were also several mills located within walking distance of many homes which supplied goods needed for regional trade including clothier John Vanderlip’s mill which used local waterpower to produce fabrics; baker Amos Brown’s bakery; blacksmith Samuel Robbins’ forge; sawmill Isaac Newmark; gristmill Jacob Snowe; ferryboatman Nicholas Freytag & Co.; salt works George Fitzpatrick & Sons; shoe factory Smeaton & Laughlin Manufacturing Company etc… These businesses produced goods such as flour, cottonseed oil and shoes for export back home across I-80 to Lancaster County where they would be wholesaled before being sold locally again onwards into other parts of Pennsylvania
