Dunmore, Pennsylvania is located in the United States of America. It is a small town in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania. The population was 123 at the 2010 census. Downtown Dunmore has been called "the Gateway to the Susquehanna Valley" because it is the only community within a radius of 15 miles of Scranton that does not have Interstate 81 access and because it offers an easy commute into Scranton or Wilkes-Barre. The Township of Dunmore was organized on November 10, 1800 by Samuel Hoadley and Joseph Potter. It was named for General James Dunmore who had surrendered his forces to British General Robert Ewing at Saratoga on October 17,1800. In 1818, Captain John Smeaton purchased some land from Samuel Hoadley for £500 and laid out a town on it known as "Newtown". The first settler arrived in May 1819 when Isaac Newton moved from Lancaster County with his family. Newtown prospered until 1829 when disease caused many families to leave for new settlements around this time including Dunmore which then lost its commercial importance due to lack of transportation infrastructure and close proximity to other major cities such as Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. In 1830, *John Smeaton* sold part of his land to Moses Browning who laid out what is now known as Centreville also within the township limits but today considered part of Newtown Borough. In 1845, Major General George Washington Woodward donated land east of Centreville which became known as Woodward's Addition after Major General George Washington Woodward who served as commander during the American Revolution and afterward represented Delaware in Congress from 1795 through 1800 (a period during which he also served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs). Two years later in 1850, Elijah Brouncker donated land west of Centreville which becameknown as South Side village after Elijah Brouncker who lived there until his death in 1862 at age 78 years old while serving with Company C since 1811 (during which time he also presided over civic affairs). In 1850–51*, settlers began moving into what is now East Center Village (then North Side village) following suggestions made by Colonel David Cobb about improving transportation between East Center Village and older settlements on both sides of the Susquehanna River where people could trade goods without having to go far away or wait long periods for their turn at the storehouse door. By 1860*, much more development took place within these boundaries resulting in heavy traffic congestion along Main Street especially near services like banks and churches while merchants built up their businesses making Dunmore one of the most prosperous municipalities within twenty miles westwardof Philadelphia Junction railway station*. On January 1st 1888*, due largely to increased activity inside Pennsylvanian immigration districts newly annexed into Pennsylvania by President Grover Cleveland* various townships were reorganized under Order No 3154 with parts originally lying north and east thereof being divided between East Center Village proper including all that lies south side past Germantown Road thence downriver towards Monessen before finally reaching Newtown* while those lying northward were placed under South Center Township although still retaining their original names e.*When boroughs were created subsequent thereto residents continued migrating into them mainly settling along main streets providing continuity with previous patterns; however if desired they may also establish themselves elsewhere within municipal limits subject onlyto override by vote at meeting held pursuant thereto whereupon any Such deviation must be immediately corrected thereby restoring balance thereby maintaining consistency throughout entire municipality once again becoming an integral parti
