The history behindknife production can be traced back to 1795 when John Dickinson began making Damascus steel swords on his farm near Tubac Township in Huntingdon County PA. He continued making Damascussteel swords until 1814 when he sold them off to James Wilkinson who renamed them "The Manchester Steel Works." In 1821 Wilkinson merged with two other steelmakers forming what became known as "The Newcastle Steelworks". It was here that George Stephenson designed a new typecasting system for producing wrought iron which he patented on November 5th 1826. After several months testing this new casting process his design was accepted by Lord Sheffield who funded its development into a separate business called Stephenson Ironworks Ltd.. This newfound success allowed Stephenson Ironworks Ltd./George Stephenson & Co., Limited(later George Stephenson Group plc.)to expand rapidly into other industries including shipbuilding (1829 - 1830), engineering (1831 - 1840), mining (1844 - 1850), cotton textile mills (1851 - 1865), breweries (1871 - 1880) before being bought out by Ford Motor Company(1901) becoming part of Dearborn Automotive Corporation(1909). In 1862 Samuel Colt began producing revolvers using a bacterial fermentation method which led him to develop what would become known as Colt Firearms Manufacturing Incorporated(CFM). In 1903 Colt introduced their first selfloading revolver which they named Model 1911 after Colonel Samuel Colt himself resulting in mass production throughout America beginning February 14th 1903…………………..and lasting until December 5th 1913………………….with over 1 million pistols produced! On September 2nd 1944, about 125 people assembled on Simpson Street near present-day Bridgeport for a service rally marking the end of hostilities in Europe that quickly turned violent when American servicemen demanded free food and cigarettes following what proved to be an open assault by Nazis against several Allied groups including local members of the British Royal Air Force stationed at Amiens airfield nearby; three civilians were killed and many others injured as a result).
