In 1788, a group of settlers in Dunmore Township, Pennsylvania, organized the first local militia to protect themselves from Indian attack. The organization was known as the “Dunmore Rifle Company.” After eight years of existence, the company disbanded because it could not find enough volunteers to keep up with the Indian attacks. However, the riflemen that had formed it continued to fight and defeat Indian warriors for many years thereafter. In 1812, Dunmore township erected a public square in honor of their rifles and other war trophies. Over time, various private organizations have been formed to preserve and maintain these firearms and documents related to them. Today, there are several historical societies located in Dunmore Township which offer tours of these museums and Heritage Hall (the old arsenal where weapons were stored) during museum hours.

Closed- Face Saddlebacks: Closed-face saddlebacks are designed specifically for handguns that need magazine capacity (i.e., revolvers with manual safeties or conversion kits) but do not have an open face design like open-face saddles. They typically come equipped with one or more built-in inserts that accept Glock mags (.40 S&W through .357 SIG), Smith & Wesson Revolvers (.380 Chiefs Special through .45ACP), Kimberlys (.45 ACP), Sigmas (.22 LR calibers), Ruger LCR pistols (.380 ACP through 9mm Luger) and Kahr K9 pistols (). For added security, these cases often also include latches on either side of the bottom opening for securing firearms when not in use
