In 1865-66, when Pennsylvania seceded from the Union and joined the Confederacy, DunMORE remained an important military garrison until its closure in 1870. thereafter it declined considerably in importance and eventually ceased operations entirely after that date. Today only a few ruins remain from what once was one of Pennsylvania's largest towns - evidence that even with modern tools and technology we can never truly recreate those days when life was more simple and families were closer together than they are today
