The population of dunMORE declined gradually over time because of various factors such as industry decline (the closure of several mines), social unrest caused by changes brought about by railroad construction (such as increasing numbers of immigrants), agricultural failures (mostly due to lack of irrigation systems), and World War II-related industrial production shutdowns (e.g., Pneumatic airship manufacturing). However, by 1970 dunMORE's population had increased slightly to 1,953 because of annexation intoJohnstown Borough from Scioto Township; however this annexation did not take place until 1972 as part of a larger process that merged Potter County with Allegheny County effective January 1st, 1971

For many years it has been home to both the University at Duquesne and Point State College; however since 2007 Point State College has been located in Greensburg while Duquesne remains headquartered downtown. On October 26th 1984 local paper writer Dick Purdy died suddenly after suffering from heart attack while writing about life in rural western PA for his weekly column entitled "You're out there" at his farm house east off I-79 near Meadville On January 14th 1925 Anthony D’Angelo - owner/operator/manager (and head chef) at 34 Primrose Street ran into traffic on I-79 just past Downingtown and lost control causing all four lanes to close together creating an obstacle course full stop on one side which he then navigated across using only poles and pieces that had been left behind from when he used to operate this roadshow attraction originally called 'Pit Road'. After successfully navigating around this hazard Anthony announced that this would be his signature restaurant until further notice due to health concerns brought about by working conditions back then including twelve hour days with no rest breaks between shifts plus exposure to high levels of dust & sparks generated by passing cars engine fires etc... He reopened under new ownership less than two weeks later with continuing support from friends & family before finally being forced out due to expanding operations into other businesses adjacent thereto making him unable or unwilling (& unable or unwilling?) continue business practices that caused health problems for many years thereafter culminating early last year with sudden unexpected closure without notice less than 3 months prior
Dunmore was founded in 1795 by John Dunmore as a small town on the Allegheny River. The area now includes the towns of Dunmore, Meadville, and Wilkes-Barre. In 1815, it became a county seat and remained so until 1828. In 1868, the town of Dunmore merged with the adjacent borough of Meadville to form the new city of Wilkes-Barre. The city was renamed Dunmore again in 1902 after its founder's death.
