In 1916, construction began on the now famous Scranton–Wilkes-Barre Railroad which linked Scranton with Wilkes-Barre and other points eastward. The railroad quickly became one of the most important transportation arteries in eastern Pennsylvania and remains so today. The towns along its route soon grew prosperous due to their access to jobs in locomotive Repair shops or other manufacturing plants located along the tracks. Today, much of what once characterized Dunmore's agricultural economy has been replaced by suburban housing developments that dot its landscape like mushrooms after a rainstorm rains down from the sky; these developments are often home to large schools and shopping malls as well as scores of small businesses catering to residents within walking distance of their homes - providing ample opportunities for residents who may not have had such easy access to markets before for their goods and services; however, it should be noted that there still remain some farms dotting dunmores' rural landscape providing fresh local produce year round!

Dunmore Township, Pennsylvania was established on November 4, 1795. It is named for General James Dunmore, who fought in the American Revolution. The township included the present-day towns of Dunmore and Holmesburg.
