Dunmore is a small town in Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 4,055 at the 2010 census. Dunmore is part of the Pittsburgh– Allegheny metropolitan area. The name "Dunmore" derives from the Susquehanna River which flows through the town. A post office called DunMORE was established in 1802 and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1892. The first settler in what is now Dunmore Township was James Ladd. He erected a cabin on the banks of the Susquehanna River in 1796. This early pioneer community burned down during a storm on July 8, 1798, but Ladd rebuilt his cabin and started to grow fruits and vegetables for local consumption. In 1800, John Hennepin sold land to George Washington for $10 per acre (the equivalent of ). The township was organized on February 14, 1802 by representatives from both Armstrong and Jefferson counties as part of a general uprising against British rule that began with the Whiskey Rebellion of 1794. It would not be until 1830 that Dunmore began receiving mail from Philadelphia; at this time there were only two roads into or out of town- one via Northumberland Avenue and the other via Grant Street which ran along then current US Route 422 (now Erie Boulevard). In 1850, DunMORE had a population of 330; by 1880 it had increased to 1,500 with over 100 businesses including gristmills, sawmills and tanneries among its industries. On October 10th 1860 four prominent citizens: Judge Solomon Mathers Jr., Drury Wistar Lewis Sr., Augustus Fenton Moore and Hiram Bingham Horse traded rifles with General Robert Ewell Jackson at Fort Knox Kentucky for supplies being sent westward under cover of darkness after Confederate victories at First Manassas Junction and Second Bull Run Bridgehead respectively With more than 1 million people living within commuting distance by 1900 transportation became an increasingly important factor limiting growth rates within towns such as Dunmore so several measures were taken beginning around this time including prohibition laws enacted in most major U S cities making alcohol illegal establish free public libraries providing reading materials such as books children could access without fear of getting caught or worse occurring like happened with some other small towns where tax money wasn't used efficiently leading to an exodus leaving behind cultural relics often left unmonitored resulting in environmental disaster

By 1812 all participating nations had standardized on....Hammersized projectiles such as iron-cased shothelles were introduced around 1840...The conversion from cannons to breech loading weapons also necessitated changes within both armsorers & mechanics who had to adapt their methods & tools including improving cocking machines,...In 1856 Samuel Colt patented his first revolver utilizing what he termed 'rimmed ball' technology which enabled him to fire almost any round outfitted with non-metallic particles inside the case making it less likely to cause injury should it ricochet off something hard like armour [7] . In 1865 John Browning patented similar technology for his new bolt action rifle which became known as the Winchester Repeating Arms Company handgun factory revolver (.36 caliber). This led directly to handguns such as Thompson submachineguns becoming available commercially throughout most parts of the world by 1888[8],[9],[10],[11] . It should be noted that prior to 1860 handguns generally consisted only of trial shotshelles/rounds fitted with metal cogs that caused damage if misfired

The Dunmores were among the earliest settlers of what is now Lancaster County. In 1837, Dunmore became the capital of the new state of Pennsylvania. The town was already well-known for its wine production when it became the capital of Pennsylvania. For many years, it had been home to the Philadelphia Mint, which produced coins bearing the likenesses of George Washington and other American leaders. The mint closed its doors in 1847 and moved to New York City until 1865 when it reopened as the Philadelphia Mint again. In 1849, James Dunmore erected a large stone building at what is now Main Street called "the Capitol." This structure served as both the town's legislative courthouse and jail from 1753 until 1861 when those functions were transferred to Reading Borough. In 1938, part of Main Street between Market and Franklin Streets was renamed "James Wainwright Boulevard" in honor of James Wainwright (1821-1899), one of Dunmore's most significant residents during its early days. Dunmore also played an important role during World War II as a military training center for U.S troops stationed in Europe and Asia. The War Production Board used DunMORE extensively for testing munitions before they were released into combat areas across America.
