Columbia is a small town in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first settler in Columbia was James Caldwell in 1792. The town was founded on the east side of the Allegheny River by Johnnie Caldwell and other early settlers. These were Methodists who had fled religious persecution in Scotland. In 1815, the town became a state-chartered township when it was included in Pennsylvania as part of Second Reading District 1; it remained so until 1925 when it became a borough pursuant to Act No. 680 of that year. When Pittsburgh annexed all of Fayette County in 1907, Columbia became one of its municipalities; however, its municipal government continued to be separate from that ofPittsburgh until 1967 when both towns consolidated into one city under common management with some exceptions which remain today within Columbia's borders (see list below). Columbia has two schools: Columbian School and Monessen Intermediate School. There are also four churches: Presbyterianism ( Grace Presbyterian Church), Baptist ( First Baptist Church), Methodist ( Monessen Methodist Episcopal Church), and Catholic ( Immaculate Conception Parish). The town has a post office and three stores: Giltner's Drug Store, Post & Tea Shop, and Smith's Hardware Store; along with several businesses serving local needs such as an ice cream parlor and farm stand operated by Mrs. Haskins since 1984: milk production ceased operations there during World War II but resumed after hostilities ended; apples have been raised here since 1868 by Samuel Muhlenberg who set up what is now called "Muhlenberg Apples" cultivation near the original homestead site where he built his house current day Washington Park across from Columbian High School

Columbia, Pennsylvania is a small borough in Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 559 at the 2010 census. Columbia was first settled by Germans in the early 17th century and became part of the Kingdom of Prussia during the 18th century. It attained its current form as a borough on December 3, 1903, when it merged with nearby Clearfield. The town of Columbia was founded by George Washington and his men in 1793 after they abandoned their previous encampment west of Chambersburg. Washington's local land grant made Columbia one of thirteen townships that were created from parts of Bradford Township eastward to Huntingdon Valley. In 1800, John Armstrong died leaving two daughters as his heirs: Martha and Anna Armstrong alleged he had not left them anything because he wanted to marry one of those daughters instead. They took action to void his will and get back what he had given them including $100 each which they used to buy 6 acres (2 km²) piece of land near what is now known as Hopewell Junction Road. Martha Armstrong then built a house there on this property where she lived until her death in 1865; her daughter continued to live there until her death in 1951 also. The Armstrong girls are buried at Fourth Presbyterian Church Cemetery next door to their mother's house). In 1853, three brothers named David Cook bought 120 acres (49 ha) north-west of town for $10 per acre ($1/ha). They started an agricultural colony called Cookstown on this land which eventually produced over 1 million bushels (4700 kg) of corn, 5000 bushels (18 kg)of beans, 100 barrels (3 L)of malt whisky and 50 barrels (2 L)of potatoes annually from 1860 until 1900 when production peaked at 2100 bushels (12000 g), 6000 barrel feet (2500 m3), 10 metric tons/year or 2400 kg/year or 8000 lb/year or 2500 t/#yr @ 5450 bbls./drag net). The Cookstown Plantation continues today as the basis for many modern day businesses including Hopewell Junction Road Creamery & Baking Company & other similar businesses located on nearby residential streets such as Northumberland Avenue and Westmoreland Avenue near Interstate 81 where I-81 crosses under Cookstown Bridge into Pennsylvanian proper
The first European settler in the area was Nicholas-Jacques Cartier, who landed in what is now Columbia Township on May 5, 1683. He named his new land "New France" after the French colony of Acadia which he had seen while exploring North America. The first settlement at Columbia was a small log cabin, and by 1725 there were only six families living there. Columbia became a borough in 1846 and then a city in 1903. It was the site of two significant events during its history: on November 25, 1847, when Mayor James Craig installed the world's first municipal water system; and on December 12, 1938 when City Manager John Condon created the first city code.
