The first Methodist Episcopal church was built on what is now Market Street in 1870; it still holds services today. The village had a total population of just under 100 people by 1910 but rapidly grew with new homes being erected along both sides of Main Street between 1900 and 1920. At its peakpopulation around 2200 residents lived within walking distance of most civic amenities including shops, restaurants, banks and churches; however during prohibition time this increased exponentially to over 10K residents due to organized crime related businesses that flourished during that period! This rapid growth caused many problems such as overcrowding – one estimate puts the numberof people living close to highways/roads at 50%, while also putting stress on infrastructure which led to years(such as 1946) where poverty rates peaked out above 60%. However through federal assistance programs like Head Start since 1976 Coatesville has seen continued progressivism with low poverty rates even as its demographics have shifted reversing some decades old trends

In 1768, John Forbes explored the area and named it for James Coates, an American Revolutionary War hero and justice of the peace from Cumberland County, Maryland. In 1814, President James K. Polk sent General Andrew Jackson with 1,500 men to invade Tennessee and punish its rebellious government; Coatesville was one of Jackson's outposts on his march southward. During the Mexican-American War (1846-48), Confederate forces attacked Union forces near Coatesville on September 10th of that year. A fight ensued which resulted in three dead Union soldiers and twenty wounded Confederates before Confederate Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest ordered his troops to retreat into Mexico City without further loss or damage to property or human life). After the war ended, many families relocated from Baltimore City to central Pennsylvania as business opportunities opened up there during Reconstruction following the end of slavery within America. Much of this migration took place through what is now Allentown Borough - including those who settled at what is now Lowertown Park in 1869 - making Coatesville one of the earliest incorporated towns in Allentown Township when it was formed on April 14th, 1870. The community was located on the right bank of the Susquehanna River, just upstream from where it converges with the Delaware River. The mill built by John Coates in 1758 remained in operation until 1815. In 1798, a group of Quakers settled in what is nowCoatesville and began to make a new life for themselves. In 1800, they built a schoolhouse and chapel which still stands today. They also established a trading post at this site which served as an important center for trade between Pennsylvania and Maryland.
