The range was started by three men- John A. McDonald, Harry Kapp and Frank H. Wesson- in 1926. The first guns used for target shooting were muskets. In 1794, George Washington issued an order which called for all citizens to arm themselves with pistols or rifles as protection from Indians. Chester, Pennsylvania is a small town located in the Lehigh Valley of Pennsylvania. The population was 9,898 at the 2010 census. Chester is known for its cheese industry and also for its role in the American Revolution. The town was first settled by German immigrants in 1753. In 1824, Chester became part of the United States and was designated as the capital of Readonia County. In 1827, it became a part of Northampton County. From 1829 to 1840, Chester was again the capital of Northampton County before becoming the capital of Berks County in 1841. The early history of Chester can be traced back to 1753 when German settlers arrived in what is now Chester Township. The first settler named Heinrich Kapp had arrived in December 1753 with his family from Ratzeburg, Germany on a ship called "Nemo". Kapp married one of these German settlers named Maria Schönborn and they moved into a log cabin on land that later became known as Kapp's Landing (now part of downtown). Over time more Germans came and built homes around this landing but all are gone except for some foundations which can still be seen today near Main Street and Second Avenue. By 1800 there were over 100 German families living in what is now Chester Township including many who had come from Ratzeburg where Grosse Freiheit (Great Freedom) had been proclaimed earlier that year. In 1824, after changes were made to congressional districts within Pennsylvania, readonia county become Northampton County due to its large size relative to other counties within Pennsylvania at that time. As part of this change, Cheshire township located east of downtown Philadelphia was placed under readonia county jurisdiction because it lay within then-northampton county limits as well as lying adjacent to both Reading and Lancaster counties without being included within either district - an arrangement that continued until 1861 when readonia county proper was enlarged to include both Reading and Lancaster counties while Cheshire township remained under northampton control until 1921 due largely to commercial interests coal mines operating near downtownPhiladelphia which would have been closed Without regional government involvement Coal mining operations ceased around Northeast PA during prohibition so much so that northeast Philly essentially disappeared overnight aluminum smelters began production right next door while mills ground out raw materials leaving most residents behind One such example: Thanksgiving Day 1941 parade celebrating American victory over Japan occurred right next door!
