Chambersburg, Pennsylvania is home to the oldest continuously operating rifle shooting range in the United States. The Chambersburg Rifle and Pistol Club was founded on October 22, 1876 by Capt. John L. Schertz and Lieut. Colonel George H. Crampton with the intent of providing a safe and organized place for citizens of Chambersburg to shoot targets at night. The first target holders were made from two pieces of wood that were glued together to form a stand and were used at various locations around town until 1911 when the club purchased their own target stand which they keep today. The club has invested over $10,000 into improvements to their stand including new paint job, upgraded optics, and an improved recoil pad for increased accuracy. Today, Chambersburg Rifle & Pistol Club offers members a wide variety of programming including NRA SHOOTING TARGET HOLDERS CLASSES (beginning with level 1), trap/ skeet/ sporting clays events (ranging from novice through Open Class III), muzzleloading competitions (held annually in late July), rifle shows (held every other month), birthday parties (for all ages), golf tournaments ( Held annually in early September ), fishing tournaments (monthly) as well as many more opportunities for shooters of all levels to enjoy shootingTargetHolds history!

Chambersburg Shooting Target Hangers was founded in 1907 by George and Florence L. Donnellan. The company became a national supplier of shooting target holders. TheDonnellans continued to operate the business until their death in 1971. The business was then passed down to their son, John Donnellan, who operated it until his death in 1990. In 1992, the business was sold to Shooters Supply Co., which continued to operate it until 1996 when it went out of business.
Chambersburg is a town in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, United States. It is the seat of Chambersburg Township and was established in 1798 as part of the Western Pennsylvania colony. The population was 10,738 at the 2010 census. The borough of Chambersburg annexed the town of Westmoreland in 1892. The first settler in what is now Chambersburg was Nicholas McGowan, who arrived in 1798 from Scotland and named his new settlement after John Chambers, 2nd Viscount Palmerston. In 1800, John Armstrong settled on a tract of land east of where Chamberlainsville now stands. He erected a log cabin and named it "Armstrongstown". By 1802, there were six families living in Armstrongstown and three businesses had been started; a blacksmith shop, an inn and a Presbyterian church. In 1824, George Washington decided to move his Presidential Library from Mount Vernon to Philadelphia so its materials could be better accessed by scholars all over America. The president's papers were moved to Cumberland County during this time but they stayed with the Armstrongstown family until they were sold to James Mudd for $2,500 in 1830. In 1827 Samuel Morse founded Pittsburgh Telegraph Company on Main Street between High Street and Taylor Avenue and leased space from the Armstrongstown post office on Fourth Street between Butler Avenue (now Market Place) and Forbes avenue (now Griggs Avenue). The townspeople built their first schoolhouse near present-day Third Street/State Route 11 about 1840. A second school was built adjacent to First Presbyterian Church around 1850-1851; both buildings still stand today as part of Park Boulevard Historic Districts #1 & #2 . A third school building also stood near Third Street/Route 11 for about thirty years before it burned down around 1870 . However , another school building soon replaced it on State Route 111 west of ThirdStreet/Route 11 . This structure became known as "Moses Hall" after Moses Welch who donated land for it . It served as the primary public high school from 1868 until 1977 when Easton Area School District took over operations

Chambersburg is located in the Susquehanna River Valley and straddles the border of three counties: Lackawanna, Lehigh, and Northampton. The first settler in what became Chambersburg was David Marks who arrived on July 4, 1755. It was not until 1758 that John Armstrong settled there as well. On January 1, 1800, Benjamin Franklin moved to Chambersburg from Waterford Township in Bucks County after becoming president of the United States. In 1802 James Fenton opened a store and tavern here which became known as "Fenton's Mill." In 1824 John Dickinson purchased land west of the Susquehanna River from Nicholas Scott for $125 dollars. He founded Dickinson College here in 1830 and named it after himself; also called Dickinson University today. The town began to grow rapidly around this time with new construction including a gristmill (1835), brewery (1836), post office (1837), schoolhouse (1838), hotel (1839), canal boat landing (1840), Masonic Lodge No. 5 & No. 6 (1841), railroad station (1911) and many others during its early years
Chambersburg is a borough in and the county seat of Berks County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 9,463 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area. Chambersburg was founded on July 1, 1799 as a small frontier town named for General James Cameron, commander of British forces in America during the French and Indian War. The first settler in what is now Chambersburg was John Fenton who bought 640 acres (250 ha) of land from Othon de la Salle in 1802. In 1814, George Washington visited Chambersburg and pronounced it "the most important place in America." On November 3, 1800, two days after Yorktown ended the American Revolution and more than two centuries after its original settlement began, Chambersburg's incorporation as a borough occurred with an act of the Pennsylvania Legislature. The early years were difficult for Chamberlinians; their only source of food was wild game that they hunted and gathered themselves. However, over time they developedrastructure such as schools and water systems to help them become prosperous and self-sufficient within their own community. By 1830 there were six businesses operating in town - three stores, one blacksmith shop and one mill - accounting for almost half the businesses surveyed by surveyors at that time. In 1832 local paper writer John Dickinson published his article "A Vindication of Your Borough" which lampoons some aspects of then-new borough law which he felt violated free speech rights guaranteed to all Americans by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution. The increasing population led to increased civic activity; by 1840 there were ten organizations represented in town government including a select committee on public works; five committees responsible for street lighting; four committees responsible for maintaining public buildings; one committee responsible for social welfare programs; one committee responsible for probate proceedings; and one committee charged with monitoring elections process). In 1854 local voters approved passage of an Ordinance giving effect to an Act of Congress recognizing Delaware County as a separate judicial district embracing portions of Berks County eastward along PA Route 611 from Lancaster down through Reading to Bucks Valley before continuing northeastward along PA Route 611 into Montgomery County (present day Delaware County). At this time also came about changes within township government with creation or addition of new positions not found elsewhere within Pennsylvania - such as Mayoralty (now District Manager), assessor (later Collector), Water Board member (later Superintendent), Fire Department Commissioner (later Deputy Sheriff), Constable/Police Officer/Burglar alarm system installer/installer/maintenance manger etc... chamberlin became self-governing under these new rules beginning on January 1st 1860 when Township Meeting adjourned without taking any action on proposed resolutions authorizing charters theretofore granted subject only to special approval thereof by Township Grand Marshal... thereafter each individual Ward held its meeting open House until called together upon by Township Clerk who presides over all meetings... voting took place among apportioned membership therein not exclusively upon question butanimous consent being given either orally or written notice having been duly given prior thereto... proceeded with business according to plan set forth hereinabove except where objection being taken prorogued session indefinitely adjourning without further action
