The early 20th century saw a dramatic change to the way Philadelphia City Hall functioned as the court system moved from Philadelphia to Chambersburg. This led to an increased demand for courtroom space in the town and also caused problems with how to provide transportation for courthouse employees who commute into Philadelphia each day. In 1917, a new courthouse was built in Chambersburg that serves both local government needs as well as state court hearings and other trials. In 1925, Chambersburg opened its own schools which continue to be a major part of community life today. These schools have helped contribute to the growth of Chamber Music Festival and other chamber music events throughout the year.

Chambersburg is a town in and the county seat of Chambersburg County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 710 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first European settlement in what is now Chambersburg was by George Washington in 1747 as part of the Conestoga Colony. In 1799, John Forbes purchased the land from the French for £5 per acre (equivalent to $ ). He named his new settlement after his friend and mentor, James Douglas, 3rd Earl of Morton. In 1814, Forbes donated 1/2 mile (1 km) east of his original home on Beaver Creek Road to form a public square known as "Forsyth Square." That square became home to many businesses and services including banks and post offices until 1955 when it closed down due to financial problems. In 1825, following approval by Congress, Forbes founded what would become Western Reserve University which he endowed with lands adjacent to Beaver Creek Road. On July 14, 1830, Chambersburg became one of 24 towns within Pennsylvania designated as the "City of Refuge" under President Andrew Johnson's Executive Order No. 9881 that sought refuge for citizens during times of riots or insurrectionary violence throughout America. The city enjoyed wide acclaim for its moral values and gentle government that helped make it a model community for later cities such as Philadelphia and Cleveland. The city also experienced rapid growth due to its location near transportation points such as railways and roads which facilitated agricultural production that supported local mills located along Beaver Creek Road
Chambersburg is a small town in southern Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 5,973 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Philadelphia–Camden–Wilmington metropolitan area. The first human settlement in what is now Chambersburg came about as early as 1724 when the Lenape Native Americans built a trading post there on land that later became part of Huntingdon Township. John Chambers (1711-76), one of the original settlers and a member of the Provincial Assembly for Bucks County from 1749 to 1753, was instrumental in helping to lay out the present town site. The first recorded settler in what is now Chambersburg was George Haldeman (1692-1764). He made his home on an estate known today as Haldeman's Hill and platted what are now parts of Centre and North Streets back then called "Haldeman's Glen". In 1824, when Pennsylvania became a state, it included what are now Butler and Montgomery counties. For many years it was thought that Chambersburg had been founded by Colonel Edward Furness (1793-1844) who moved his family to this area from York County after becoming captain general of militia during the American Revolution. However recent research indicates that Furness may have actually been born in Scotland and arrived in America around 1800. In 1825 Colonel James Wirtz acquired 3/8 mile (1 kilometer) east of present day Chamberlin Avenue Partition Line between Butler and Montgomery Counties – also known as Wirtz' Mill – which he used as his hunting ground and farmstead until his death in 1874. In November 1830, Andrew Dickson set up a blacksmith shop within easy access to provide needed items for local farmers with tools they could not find anywhere else near them including horseshoes, nails, hatschetts, axles etc., all while still able to produce goods other than shoes here at home using traditional methods such as burning brush or coals over an open fire instead of using metal smelting techniques which were then rapidly developing due to brass production technologies being developed by Englishmen working for French interests at Roquebrune on Ile d'Orleans just off Normandy coast France during this time period; these innovative brass products soon replaced shoe leathers throughout much of Europe! This pioneering business approach would continue through most if not all subsequent businesses established within our community until today! At this time Chambersburg boasted 4 shops employing 45 men engaged full time making motion pictures such as Progress Pictures Company & His Sons Manufacturing Company 11am-10pm Mon.-Fri.; Allentown Iron Works 12pm-6pm Sun.; Baldwin Glass Works 9am-5pm Tue.-Sat.). Today we only have 2Shops remaining but their operations continue uninterrupted!
