Chambersburg is a town in Carbon County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 12,887 at the 2010 census. The name of the community comes from Chambersburg Junction on the Monongahela River where two trails meet. Chambersburg was founded by farmers and traders in 1795 as a small log cabin settlement. It became an agricultural center with large plantations during the 1800s. In 1881, Chambersburg became a city and continued to grow until it reached its current size in 1950. The Manufacturing Company ceased operations in the early 2000s but has left a lasting legacy on the community through its businesses and cultural institutions such as the Arts District Museum and Library which are located near downtown.
