Chambersburg is a city in and the county seat of Chambersburg County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 37,868 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first Europeans to visit this area were traders from what is now Ontario, Canada in 1683-84. In 1737, George Washington explored this area for the French on his mapping mission with Captain James Cook. In 1814, John Fenton bought land here and founded the town of Fenton on July 24th as a portage between Monongahela River and Potomac River. On December 12th of that year he sold all his land to General Edward Canby for $5,000 dollars. Canby had been an officer in Lord Cornwallis' army during the American Revolutionary War and became a wealthy man afterwards by trading with Native Americans in what is now Evansville and Lehigh Valley. He also acquired some land downriver near where Chambersburg now stands. On January 1st, 1825, Canby incorporated as a borough with 10% voting representation for men over 25 years old and 5% for women under 25 years old; he served as its first mayor until 1835 when he resigned after being impeached for bribery charges related to his business dealings with Indian tribes. By 1860 Chambersburg had over 50 businesses including 11 banks (one opened later that year), five Manufacturers' stores (later known as Procter & Gamble), four livery stable/feed store complexes (later J M Dent & Co.), three breweries (the early ones occupied space currently occupied by PNC Park), one silk mill (now defunct), two schools (founded1829 and 1830 respectively) including one high school which became Dickinson College in 1892; seven churches were built including St John's Episcopal Church which was consecrated on May 15th of that year; eleven newspapers were published: six daily papers operated out of Fenton while two weekly papers were added – The Patriot News Company - which became The Daily Pennsylvanian Company in 1915 -and three Sunday papers - The Evening Star Company -were established before moving their operations into new buildings erected downtown along Third Street between Market Avenue East and Erie Avenue East between 1865-1867). These same buildings remain today housing many local businesses such as Chamberlin Brewing Company, Chambersburg Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership etc., along with several other notable Craftsman style homes dating back to that time

Chambersburg is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 30,441 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Butler County after Lebanon. Chambersburg is located on the Susquehanna River and has a total area of 18.2 square miles (45 km²). The town was founded in 1753 by Captain John Chambers and his family. The first store opened in 1754 in what is now the downtown core of the town. In 1800, Captain Chambers donated land to build a church which later became known as First Presbyterian Church of Philadelphia. In 1814, General Anthony Wayne's army passed through the town while marching westward from Harrisburg to take possession of Detroit Territory following its victory over Native Americans at Battle of Fallen Timbers; as a result, many people moved into Philadelphia for work during this time period. In 1821, when Chartiers Township was formed from part of Butler Township, Chambersburg became an official part of that township but retained its own government until it merged with Kittanning Township on January 1st 1860 due to increased population density within that township alone and lack of space within Kittanning Township for all the new residents/ buildings/ infrastructure that had been erected since 1861 when it had been established as an independent township! On September 16th 1830 John Beall began construction on what would become known as Beall's Mechanics Institute which he started up with his son James Beall Jr., also a contractor and member of the first Board Of Education for Kittanning Township (now Beavercreek Borough) back then! The building continued to be used until 1945 by gradeschools/pre-kindergarten through high school students before becoming defunct & being taken down because it was not possible to get funding or permits fromakihtly anymore thru today's means thru grants etc :( However enough pictures can still be taken inside so feel free too ask if you want pics :) The economy in Chambersburg has always been based upon agriculture due to both its fertile soil and its proximity to major markets like Philadelphia and Harrisburg along with nearby Quakertown which provides other essential services such as transportation, manufacturing and retailing throughout much of central Pennsylvania! Today’s agricultural sector accounts for about 60%of Chamberburys economic output!
