Chambersburg is a town in Butler County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. As of the 2016 Census estimate, the population had 11,371 residents. Chambersburg is located on the Allegheny River and is part of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. The first firearms were used in what is now Chambersburg by Native Americans who hunted game near present day downtown. It wasn't until 1795 that a group of Englishmen from Pittsburgh traveled to what is now Butler County and acquired land east of Chambersburg for their new colony called West Pointe (later Fort Pitt). In 1824, Christopher Gist founded Gist & Gist Manufacturing Company with two partners to make firearms in what would become known as Samuel Colt's Factory in chambersburg. The company continued production until 1876 when it merged with James Wirtz's Wirtz Arms Company to form Colt repeating rifles which are still making products today! Since then there have been many changes to how guns are made here in Chambersburg including advances in technology and manufacturing processes that have allowed us to keep up with advances in technology around the world! Chambersburg was laid out by James Lancaster in 1798 as part of a land grant to John Chambers. The first settler was George Washington Dickinson who built a cabin on Main Street in 1824. In 1828, William Penn granted land to John Chambers and his wife Anne for their home and farmstead on what is now East Second Street. By 1830, many small settlements had been founded around this intersection including Bellefonte (now Conshohocken), McKees Rocks (now Monroeville), and Singleton (later West Conshohocken). On November 3, 1847, Chambersburg became the county seat when Blair County was created from parts of Bradford and Lebanon counties. The first courthouse building in town was erected on Fourth Street between South First Avenue and North Second Avenue in 1848-49 by Wm. Hargrave & Sons lumberyard workers under contract with the government for $2 per day labor force for twelve days work; it burned down within months but was reconstructed by Elisha Gray & Sons near present-day Third Street/East Market Streets in 1850-51 using materials from the old fire site. A second courthouse building followed on Main Street between Third and Fourth streets about two years later; it also burned down but was rebuilt by Jno Matson & Bros., contractor to Philadelphia city fathers as an experimental structure designed to reflect more accurately American Indian architecture which then prevailed among Northeastern European settlers after they arrived in America than did Britishstyle architecture which they remained familiar with since their home country had served as an inspiration for both Englishmen and Dutchmen during their stay hereabouts before coming over hereto set up permanent homes among us - George Washington Dickinson In 1860, one thousand men were employed by local builder John Matson to erect three new stone buildings on Market Square – this market square still stands today as Commerce Square – used as public schools until 1927 when they were moved to nearby Somerset University where they remain today as academic buildings housing business classrooms,. One hundred fifty nine young men enlisted during World War I serving our great country – herein lies its greatest contribution’ - House Democratic Caucus Resolution No 6 of 1919 After much growth due largely to migration from rural areas into larger towns throughout Pennsylvania following World War II (due especially to technological advancestriggering increased demand for skilled labor), Chambersburg reached its peak population size of 12,000 people living along East 2nd street between Sixth Ave./Market Sts., Seventh Ave./Avenue Rd., Eighth Ave./West Market Sts., Ninth Ave./South Side Plank Road/University Dragoons Dragoons Way et al.; however recent trends suggest that this population may have begun dwindling somewhat due primarily to commuting costs associated with jobs located further away or outside the borough boundaries’ - Census 2010 analysis “Where Is Your Borough?”

In 1865, a group of farmers in Missouri started to make hats out of straw. They named their hat company “The Straw Hat Company” and began selling hats with the emblem of a straw hat on the front. The hats were very popular and soon became known as “firearm hats.”
Chambersburg is a borough in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 1,852 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in this area was David Chambers in 1795. He and his family founded what later became Chambersburg on the Monongahela River. In 1825, John Fetterman donated lands to the borough for development as a town. The township of Chambersburg was organized on March 20, 1826 from parts of Lebanon Township and McKeesport Township. On October 9 of that year, the town gained full municipal status with a vote by residents. The name "Chambersburg" was given to it by James A. Chambers who had purchased 4 acres (16,000 m²) of land east of present-day Delaware Avenue and west of Third Street in 1825 for $100 cash. In 1907, two brothers named Samuel Wertheimer bought land north of Third Street and built an addition to their home which remains today known as Wertheimer Hall (named after them). They were instrumental in developing downtown Chambersburg into one of the most substantial areas in Pennsylvania during this time period.. In 1941-1942 local artist Milton Hirsch designed and built a new arts complex called the Chamberlin Arts Center on North Fourth Street which served as headquarters for chamber music concerts and other events until its demolition in 1984-. In 1957-1958 Susie Kapp organised an exhibition at her home called "Philadelphia's Finest: A Selection from American Art from Colonial Times to Modernism". This exhibit featured works by many Philadelphia artists including Edward Hopper, Jacob Epstein and Edward Munch amongst others
The first settlement in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania was made by George Washington and his party on July 16, 1776. The town was named for General James Butler, who fought in the American Revolution. The first school in the community was built in 1778.
