Carlisle is a small town in Pennsylvania with a population of just over 12,000. It's located in the Susquehanna Valley and has been around since the 16th century. The area that now makes up Carlisle was first inhabited by the Lenape people and then by the Shawnee people. In 1795, the area was surveyed for Fort Cumberland and it was decided that Carlisle would be its primary settlement. The town was founded on October 22, 1795, by General John Forbes and his Regiment of Horse. It soon became an important trading post due to its location near the Susquehanna River. In 1814, Carlisle became part of Ohio Territory and it remained an important center for trade until President James K. Polk dissolved the territory in 1846. After Pennsylvania seceded from Ohio in 1861, Carlisle residents voted to join Pennsylvanian Union instead of becoming part of Confederate America. On January 1, 1863, during World War II, Carlisle played a significant role in the Battle of Gettysburg as part of First United States Army Corps under General George Smedley Butler. After World War II ended, many businesses closed and residents began to lose their jobs throughout the early 1960s. However, thanks to sawmills and other manufacturing businesses opening up in nearby towns such as Allentown and Bethlehem, Carlisle slowly regained its lost ground between 1965-1975 when economic growth resumed across all parts of PA due to deregulation withinPennsylvania’s economy following passage ofThe Taft-Hartley Act (1947). This period also saw new construction projects such as The University of Pittsburgh’s medical school opening up in 1969 which once again helped drive local economic development; however this period would come to an end with oil market crashes beginning in 1973 which caused many closures among various factories throughout central PA including those atCarlisle High School whereupon comprehensive restructuring led to closure or sale within two decades resulting in some lossy investments for local entrepreneurs particularly afterglobal recession hit during late 1980s/early 1990s

Carlisle is a city in Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 21,521 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Carlisle County. The name "Carlisle" comes from English settlers who named it after Castle Carlisle in England in the 17th century. The first Europeans to visit what are now Carlisle were French explorers and traders in the early 16th century. They sailed up the Susquehanna River and discovered a "new world" they called Canada (now Ontario). In 1585, Giovanni da Verrazzano explored and charted much of North America for Spain under Governor Velásquez de Almagro. In 1690, Dutch explorer Hendrick Corstiaensen surveyed and mapped portions of what are now Delaware, Pennsylvania and Maryland; he also named some rivers there including the Susquehanna. In 1702, Generalmajor George Washington's force arrived at Fort Duquesne on the southern tip of Pittsburghs Point State Park to quell a Native American uprising against British rule. When General James Forbes took over command from Washington during his absence on leave in 1703, Forbes ordered his men not to salute or give any quarter to any Indian leaders present when they attacked an unarmed wagon convoy near Philadelphia that had just crossed the Susquehanna River downstream from Fort Pitts Landing on July 10th – one of several massacres conducted by Forbes during his tenure as commander-in-chief throughout North America.(1) Congress later passed an act providing for military service by all free white males between 18 tendered their allegiance to Great Britain instead of France or Spain.(2) This event is memorialized by a statue located outside of Philadelphia's Independence Hall which reads: "Erected By The People Of Philadelphia In Memory Of Those Who Fell At Yorktown."(3) The town site was first settled by German immigrants who arrived around 1800 along with other Germans moving westward across Pennsylvania into what are now West Virginia and Ohio (then part of Europe). The first post office was established in 1814.(4) A millrace known as Mill Creek ran through central Carlisle until it was diverted c1860 because water becoming available upstream made farming more feasible than before. After floods destroyed most mills built along its course during 1861-1965 Pike & Monongahela Canal construction project saw significant growth in trade with surrounding counties centering around Chambersburg; east side growth slowed following canalization while northside thrived due to new development including shopping clusters centered around Nishua Valley Shopping Center which anchored Regency Road mall today developed east side streets south off I-95 entered via old Route 422 carrying US 50 exit ramp onto I-695 then Route 422 continued paralleling I-495 until former routes merged into one highway forming PA Turnpike Naming Convention should have started here - but never did It's also been noted that since pipelines can carry more oil than railroads ever could allow Midwestern farmers began exporting their crops such as corn ethanol directlyto European markets bypassing U S ports making this area one of very earliest boom times for farm economy
